you'd think after 29 months in Canada

......that we would realise that the water in a dehumdifier would freeze if left in a non winterized sunroom in temperatures of minus 22......:eek:

It's amazing what we do forget sometimes. :o

Hows the dehumidifier working out...that is when it's not frozen?

That cold? I suggest you replace the water in the device with gin. Should make for a happier household all round.

We installed a dehumidifier in our home in the UK a few years ago, should have done it long before. The amount of water we got out every night was amazing and it certainly improved that damp feeling on the walls of the rooms we didnt use very much! Worth every penny. Here, of course, we have to run a humidifier. Anyone have one of those small portable ones in the bedroom? Are they noisey, do they work well. I suffer from lots of nasal problems in the morning and dont know whether to just stick with my snoring plasters (very romantic ;)) or invest in a small humidifier if they work and wont keep me awake all night. :)

In your basement is okay as it is heated (I assume) and consequently freezing shouldn't take place. If you have any indication of dampness in the house or wet inside windows then you should be using it. It will help extract the wetness.

its not heated, but our wood furnace is down there, and we need to keep a window open for that, so is this ok

I think it would be unusual if your basment were not heated. Check your temperature in the basement. It should be at a comfortable level. In other words can you go down there in the depths of winter without puting on a parka?

nope its not heated, well half is where it is finished off, the other isnt, as its got the furnace there.
