English teacher David McCullough’s June 1 faculty speech to the graduating class of Wellesley High School in the affluent Boston suburb of Wellesley, Mass., has become a global video sensation. Here’s an edited transcript:

So here we are . . . commencement . . . life’s great forward-looking ceremony.

From this day forward . . . truly. . . in sickness and in health, through financial fiascos, through mid-life crises and passably attractive sales reps at trade shows in Cincinnati, through diminishing tolerance for annoyingness, through every difference, irreconcilable and otherwise, you will stay forever graduated from high school, you and your diploma as one, ’til death do you part.

I saw that speech (although I don't recall him saying "freakin'", thankfully!) and I thought it was superb. I was surprised at first that he didn't get a standing ovation.... then I remembered who he was talking to, and wasn't!

I'd say he's a student of A Course In Miracles or something....

Well worth a watch.
