Re: Are you immune to flu?
I was going to get it today but have woken up sick (ear ache, sore throat and fever ) and just feel horrible so will wait until feelimg better.
Why is it sickness always seems to come right when work starts again. Luckily I have 3 days off.

Re: Are you immune to flu?
Whatever it is I came down with is certainly not a normal cold, a lot of flu like symptoms. I feel 100% worse now vs this morning.
My legs feel like a train hit them.
Good thing I am off til Friday. Hope by then I feel better.

Re: Are you immune to flu?
We were on holiday earlier this year when one morning I suddenly came down with flu like symptoms. I had no choice but to crawl into bed...I stayed there for 3 days...then I was OK. I wouldn’t say it was flu but it was much worse than the standard cold.
Hope you are the same J.

This is something between a cold and flu. Glad its happened on my days off as there is no way I could have gone to work yesterday or today. Just hoping I feel well enough by Friday.

I can understand that, that makes sense. I was just stating a fact not giving an opinion on the validity of vaccines etc.
Seems to be more prevalent over here than when either I was growing up or living in the old country. Perhaps things have changed since I've been gone

I had problems getting the flu vaccination for 3 years when living in Toronto on the Super Visa. I called around many surgeries and pharmacies and was refused because I didn’t have a OHIP number. I presume without an OHIP number they can’t claim costs back. In the end I went to the US for the vac.

With respect thats like saying: "Never worn a seatbelt. Never had an accident that needed one". Except that not wearing a seatbelt only risks you. Not having a flu vaccination risks the population as a whole, not just the individual. Herd immunity and all that.
Flu jab rollouts here start Oct 22nd. The provincial govt in their infinite wisdom has stopped paying doctors to give them in preference to public clinics. That's fair does as a better application of resource but if you can't get to a clinic then you have little alternative but to pay for one through a pharmacy (who are able to give them as well.). Some employers - mine being one of them - hold vaccination clinics at work. (& we're not in the healthcare field). With a daughter who's medical history makes her susceptible to respiratory infections and a wife who is a teacher, getting the flu shot isn't optional in this house.

I always used to be a martyr to chest infections and bronchitis but a few years ago I had pneumococcal infection vaccines, Prevnar 13 and 23, and since then I've had only mild coughs and splutters. I'm a fan.

Re: Are you immune to flu?
given my extreme intolerance of the Anti Vaccine brigade i feel it is hypocritical if I don't get mine.
will call into the pharmacy after work today

I've always been told that if there's "snot it's not" flu. A feverish cold or somesuch.

I had Prevnar 13 about 6 years ago but still got pneumonia twice in 12 months. Apparently the vaccine didn’t cover the type of pneumonia I had. Since then I have had the 23.
