I do miss that occasionally - not the kebab tho! But trips back and friend here suffice :)

I like being a bit aloof - maybe its cos I am an only child?

Isn't it considered "cooler" to not be happy in British culture? Isn't life better if your are miserable?

Happy with my family and personal life, unhappy in my work life, happy that I moved here, unhappy that I moved here. Think I could have found what I thought I wanted without moving halfway round the world.

Really upside down in my thoughts and wondering what the future will bring, can't see myself in Alberta for the rest of my life, can't see myself back in the UK.

If you're from Newcastle and from the north bank of the river, and within a block or two of the wharf, then you're a Geordie; otherwise you're just another f***ing McIntosh.

I'm so happy people in the UK hate me!! Which in turn makes me happier and more smug cause it reminds me what a bunch of whinging, negative, moaning, chip on their shoulder Brits they are that can't be happy for people who work hard, make good decisions and are happy with life. They think we're "lucky" that somehow we're not responsible for all this success it just happened. But of course they are deemed "unlucky" because they don't have a slice of it.

BTW I'm making no mention of personal wealth, square footage, jobs its about success with your relationships and knowing who you are and what you want in life!

I clicked on that for about 20 seconds.

It made me less happy.

I should have taken that as a warning. I made it to about 10 seconds. I'll never get that time back.

Your friends and family must be particularly psychologically damaged people to be upset that you appear to be enjoying life. Although research into happiness suggests that one's outlook rarely changes overtime. In fact, even lottery winners, after the initial month or so of excitement generally retreat to the same level as before and the inverse seems to be the case with peole who've become disabled. So, I suspect you were a deliriously happy person before you moved to Canada.

Sorry about that, posted it in the wrong thread. :( And although Billy Joel they are not, a few people have suggested to me that they're going to investigate this band a bit further.

We're not generally into the cheerleading-type happy, but now when I call friends at home I notice how they always sound pretty light-hearted. One was telling me how a French lady had come on a secondment to her husband's workplace but became very exasperated after a while and started shouting, "You English, always you are laughing!"

The more rigorous definition is whether you were born within earshot of the Leazes End.

I was.

<By the way there are no parts of Newcastle on the south bank of the river. That's Gateshead, and they're not Geordies).
