Cultural differences innit.
I haven't noticed a whole load of big headed Canadians out there. Knowing your worth and being confident in it is not seen as bragging or boasting.
There's no need for British type false modesty and downplaying. You are what you are and are able to say that you are a dab hand on the flying trapeze, and people will be pleased for you.
Not the same as a lack of modesty.

I think that the modesty claimed by many brits is false modesty. Often we put ourselves down so that someone will disagree with us.
I think it is possible to be confident and modest as long as you are not arrogant.
I think that the quiet confidence shown by many Canadians is quite refreshing.

I was merely making a tongue in cheek remark about Canadian men. Modesty is all prevailing among the women and children of this fine and pleasant country... Again this remark is to be taken lightly.
You'll know when I'm being serious.

I will agree.
I'm minded of an episode several years ago in a hotel bar in Wyoming. I fell into the company of a gang of gas drillers, fresh off site and getting wazzocked. It was only through discreet questioning that I discovered that (a) it's a bloody dangerous job and (b) they get paid shitloads of money.
They were not bigging themselves up at all.

I've been very careful NOT to paint a whole nation in broad strokes.
