Any users here? Recent experiences to report?

I read horrible feedback on their facebook page, but as it may be our only option for non dial up I was hoping for some feedback that is less driven by impotence and frustration.

If I dont reply to you its not me being rude and ignorant (well, no more than usual), Ill be heading off into the information void soon thats all.

Used Xplornot for just over 3 years. Customer service was terrible. Cost was high, satellite reliability was good. Given an alternative I wouldn't recommend them. As a sole option go into their contracts with your eyes open.

Works fine for us, using the line of sight option.

We are happy enough with xplornet, we do have some issues but need to switch our router out before getting them out again. We did have a problem with signal strength due to the trees growing so much in one year the dish thingy had to be raised.

We haven't had any technical issues and the people they used to install have a very good reputation locally (they sub contract to a local business).

It works fine and I am able to stream live TV on Iplayer (if that provides you with comparison speeds that are helpful).

Typically, we get upload speeds of about 1Mb/sec and download of around 6Mb/sec. Sometimes it is much faster, sometimes much slower.

It is the only option available to us and, when I reviewed them as you did, I was horrified too. Thankfully, we have been pleasantly surprised.

We use Xplornet and find the service not too bad, we use for Netflix etc as well
speeds can drop off on an evening but for general internet usage its ok. Sorry not too sure about the cost as we have a small rural pole/tower on the land so Xplornet provide our internet service for free which is pretty good

We've had Xplornet satellite internet for just over 3 years and it's very reliable for us - even in really bad weather. Ours is good enough for Netflix and Youtube without buffering, but not exactly fast. We only have a 3Mbps download rate and usually achieve that speed, but it is sometimes a bit less at peak times. It's *stupidly* expensive (we pay $94.99/month for 80GB allowance on our business package, 4G/Viasat) and we wouldn't choose it if there were a reliable alternative in the area, but there's not, and it does the job...

No one would swap for something like a "hub" working of the 4g or LTE cell phone network? Those look even more expensive for anything like real world usage levels.

No way would I swap. We need a large download allowance and so the cell phone network offerings would totally break the bank. We couldn't get anywhere near the 80GB Xplornet give us, going through Telus. 10GB on Telus' 4G "Smart Hub" was the same price as our 80GB! And when you converted their overage rates to GB, rather than the 5c/MB they quote, it worked out $50/GB, whereas our Xplornet package charges us $2.50/GB over our 80GB limit!
