Can't stand lemsip and have never tried the other stuff, but you could try this - as recommended by my local pharmacist!
Upon waking up the day we were due to fly to the UK with my nose streaming and feeling like a bag of shite and knowing I suffer from painful ears upon take off and landing I went to the pharmacist and asked the fella what I should take, he suggested Reactine allergy and sinus and some paracetamol (Acetaminophene).
My God! It worked a treat, by the time we had landed the next morning all signs of cold had gone and it didn't come back, I did take the reactine for a couple of days to make sure but WOW! I was impressed. Failing that - Hot toddies

It'll be a close run thing between that and the hot toddy however.

Hope your cold goes soon though - one of the most pointless illnesses there is!

I've had this canadian flu for the past 10 days, can vouch that the lemon stuff here is vile, yes it does taste better with whiskey especially a 12 year malt. It also made me constipated. Thought that I shouldn't take the poison with whiskey too much so added some maple syrup which tasted ok.

Well I plumped for the.................................hot toddy last evening and amazingly enough I fell asleep very quickly.
Unfortunately I woke up with what I can only describe as a head full of silicon sealant and an alarming lean to the left while I walk.

Also to be avoided: taking your contact lenses out after chopping chillis.

He he - I prefer to do my man cold whining at the weekend.
I see from the blog that you have one of the main ingredients of a decent hot toddy though puritans would be turning in their graves at the thought of spoiling a decent Islay malt with anything other than water.

Have you been to the Feathers in Toronto? We used to live behind the place, that was ruinous as they have lots and lots of single malts:

I can't say I drink whisky but the OH does, why she was receiving that bottle I was flying back from the UK with a bottle of quarter cask Laphroaig for her. She doesn't add anything to it.

We used to regularly visit a pub called The Clachaig in Glencoe. They had a whisky shelf that stretched through two bars and always cost me a small fortune.
Your OH has a taste for strong tasting malts I see with Bowmore and Laphroaig. They always struck me as reminiscent of TCP. I prefer a more refined sherry taste from Speyside but whatever gets you maudlin is good by me.
