Works Christmas Do
#1
Just been planning one xmas do with one work dept and desperatly trying to aviod another one in another work dept and wondered if they have these oddities in Canada.
In the NHS they tend to be rowdy drunken do's giving us stressed out health staff a chance to have a good blow out and ultimatley embarass yourself, hereby giving the office something good to talk about for the rest of the year. Is it similar or will i HAVE TO MAKE MY LAST XMAS DO IN THE uk MY BEST EFFORT YET

People, in general, don't seem to get as shitfaced in Canada as they do in the UK.

I must say I've always stayed sober in front of people I've worked with in Canada just don't want to say or do anything I'd regret or live up to the British/Irish stereotype.

Oh Boxerdog - you LUSH!!
I've got my Christmas night out all booked (thankfully not in charge of the organisation side of things!!) Anyway, know what your mean about the NHS blowing off steam!! I didn't get home till after 4am at the last one. But it wasn't too rowdy I don't think. We just all had a laugh.
Oh well we can always meet up if both working in Calgary and have a "Glad were not in the NHS any longer" Christmas drink!!!!

Especially the 'Big House' where I did my psych.training had its own
pub .Too bad that place is now occupied by condos and townhouses.
Here , we had staff dinner in the carol ship dinner cruise or catered
dinner in one of the doc's house. It was fun and civilised.
It is your last Xmas there, yes, embarass yourself and give
them something to talk about .

As to Christmas do's, our place are having a staff dinner (free to staff and $20 to guests) at the Round-up Centre. Apparently there were complaints about the portions being too small last year, but this being Canada, they're probably fine by UK standards!
This year (for the first time) they are putting a bottle of red and a bottle of white wine (complimentary) on each table! I think they are getting the message that gifting us with pens that don't work after 20 seconds, and little pin badges saying "thankyou" doesn't quite cut the mustard!

....as to that, see my post in the "what you miss about the UK" thread! Didn't want to see that
, The bonus of working with kids with mental health problems in the UK is that it is the cinderella service and gets no funding. Hey in our area we havn't even got beds we can access in our area, then the unit 30 miles away is always full so we have to wait around 4+wks for a bed (great when you have a psychotic teenager on your hands). Even overstretched Calgary services look kike bliss to me.
