Default Winnipeg real estate takes another dip.

Where is Peter Gzowsky when you need him?

Best of luck to all the 'peggers on here, but really, what a daft place to build a city.

Most of us are keeping our feet dry.

The biggest problem has been ice dams, causing flooding which have caught people by surprise, and then they need quick evacuation.

Most of the problem is outside the City, and luckily is confined to just a few homes, not so good for them though.

I hope it gets no worse. But I still think it's a daft place to put a city.

A bit like building and re-building all those mansions in Malibu which slide into the ocean every few years.

There is a floodway in Winnipeg that keeps the water away from the city.
Not fail safe by any means but if you go further south I.E. Fargo the situation becomes a lot worse.

Yes, the floodway works most of the time. ( I wonder what it cost to build and what it costs to maintain & operate).

Probably less than 2 major floods...

Some info. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1997_Red_River_Flood

$500,000,000 in Manitoba in the year of above article.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red_River_Floodway

In this article it states that the floodway has saved approximately $10,000,000,000 (hope I got all the 0's)

I remember the response to the 1997 Flood, hence the reference to Peter Gzowsky, may he RIP.

WE just have the occasional flood, people seem to forget that most of the west from Calgary through Victoria is on one the most active earthquake faults, and one day the big one will come and Regina will be by the sea.

The East coast will of course be destroyed when that big lump of the Canary Isles drops into the sea causing a tsunami that will destroy the whole eastern seaboard.

We on the other hand just get damp feet.

Well, if livermanl's $ amount for the 1997 puddle was right, if must cost a bleeding fortune to get socks dried in Manitoba.

I never understood why the terrorists never thought of blowing that chunk up instead of the towers
