Many of us use the UK and US versions, better than anything Australia could manage.

Last week I met someone who had never heard of "Uncle Tom's Cabin", nor The Underground Railroad.

Technically, that not something you 'learned' but it's likely something the other person learned.

I can't say I know much about either of those two stories (?) although I have heard of the first one.

Given the miserable pace of continental drift these days, I'm not surprised.

I thought Uncle Tom's Cabin would be common knowledge even if you have read the book. The Underground Railroad isn't a book but a part of Canadian history and I'm surprised, very surprised that it wasn't taught in Canadian schools. If it were taught then Uncle Tom's Cabin would have been too.

I learned yesterday that there are (born & bred) Canadians who do not know that French is an official language in Canada.

I think that could be in the Things you didn't know but should have done, or are about to find out thread.

I remember LeVar Burton doing a children's program on PBS about the Underground Railroad. I can still remember one of the songs the slaves sang to teach others what route to take.
