Why 'community' mailboxes?
#31
Perhaps people are just wearing the wrong shoes to go pick up their mail? Here is a weird thought, how about people just get together and clear the snow as a joint effort instead of waiting for it to be cleared?
We are lucky (or not), the super mailbox is right in front of our house across the street, 3rd house in a row now, same goes for the fire hydrant. I get to see who is going and coming

We have a so-called 'community mailbox' - no real issue with collecting wanted mail but wish they had somewhere you could leave all of the junk they insist on delivering instead of having to carry it home.

I pop that back into the "mail out" box - they can throw it away for me ;0)

So much for being a team player, and doing your bits for the community

This has been about mails, what about flyers...do you all get your flyers on Thursdays or whatever day it is where you are?

We get them on a Thursday, thrown on the end of the drive. After winter you generally find a big pile of them once the snow has melted away/.

I know right
Not only is our delivered to the house, it is nicely tucked in the strategically placed mailbox along the interlocking walkway to the front door 5:45pm on the money every Thurs by the delivery lady and her son who live down the street

Canada post made the decision to centralise them for "safety reasons", and THEY made the promise that the box would be snow and ice free.
If they cant do that to keep it safe, then they should go back to delivering to my mailbox, right?

I was a team player, my own mailbox was always clear of snow and ice.

So who is losing out here in the end? I'll bet it's not CP

We used to mail stuff from our mailbox, leave it there with a twoney and they would take it and bring back a reciept/ change etc.
Now we cant do that, so dont bother. I dont mail hardly anything now. But then, who does? Thats the problem I guess. Snail mail is going the way of the dinosaurs I suspect.
All that junk mail they deliver, coupons etc. How many people even look at it?
If they has had the decency to be honest and say "Look, we are doing this to try and cut costs" I would have respected it, but to claim they are doing it for safety is just insulting our intelligence, and thats no way to keep customers.

snail mail is so last year, I get all me bills & statements through the interweb and parcels delivered to the door.
99% of my delivered post is junk, I probably check it once every 10 days and recycle all the costco magazines and pizza coupons.

We definitely go through the flyers when they come in, and am sure there are loads of others that do the same. I don't eat pizza anyway or care for the mcdonalds coupons booklet, but I like going thru the lowes, HD, xscargo and crappy tire ones

I hate to break it to you, but there are actually a lot of people that do, there are forums all over the web that cater to this. There are peopel out there into "extreme couponing" and even trade them. My most recent trip across the border, I was in a hotel where a bunch of Canadian had their books out and it had coupons like you won't believe

I suppose if it didnt work and they didnt get extra sales then they wouldnt pay for all the printing and discounting, but I cant imagine there is much in it, and those that do coupon clip would probably be just as happy to go online to find the deals.
I wont ever buy anything at XScargo now. NOthing electrical Ive ever bought there has worked more than a week, and the warrantee, if it has one, is worthless. Im zero for three now, so I wont buy stuff there now no matter how good the deal looks.
