Why a Christian Prime Minister?

Why a Christian Prime Minister?
In multicultural Canada....
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ethnic...ople_in_Canada
what is it with a Christian only Prime Minister (PM) of Canada?
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_o...us_affiliation
Is there something about not having a non-Christian PM, do you see it ever happening soon?
How important is it that the PM must be always be a Christian - if not, or a certain faith to be the PM & where does this leave anyone that is not a Christian the chance of ever being the PM of Canada?
Are they elected leaders based on religion or what university degree they have,,, Law or Commerce?
[source wiki]
"In the Canada 2011 National Household Survey (the 2011 census did not ask about religious affiliation but the survey sent to a subset of the population did), 67% of the Canadian population list Roman Catholicism or Protestantism or another Christian denomination as their religion, considerably less than 10 years before in the Canada 2001 Census, where 77% of the population listed a Christian religion. Representing one out of three Canadians, the Roman Catholic Church in Canada is by far the country's largest single denomination.
Those who listed no religion account for 24% of total respondents. In 2001 in British Columbia, however, 35% of respondents reported no religion — more than any single denomination and more than all Protestants combined"

IMHO having faith means you believe in the equivalent of fairies
Not a good recommendation to run a country
adding to that its based on something potentially a few thousand years out of date isn't a plus.........

It's actually scary as it potentially stops more people from entering politics.
You are not going to get the optimum cream from the crop.
Interesting and thank you for sharing.

Re: Why a Christian Prime Minister?
In relation to Canada, its a given I feel. Voters believe that a 'Christian' PM ensures such as the more extreme aspects of some other religions, such a Shiria law, (spelling, don't have dictionary to hand) female circumcision, stonning to death for adultery/being gay etc, not working on the sabbath, the list goes on, will not become a requirement in Canadian law. At least one hopes so...😕

There is a clerk in Kentucky who thinks that her faith empowers her to ignore her nation's laws, and this in a country that explicitly disallows links between religion and the state.
There was a writer in the UK who was subject to a death fatwa because he happened to write something that offended a particular muslim movement.
There is a middle eastern country that has created the largest prison ghetto in history and continues to discriminate against a section of its own population on the grounds that they do not belong to the state religion.
There was a single country colony of the UK that, when it achieved independence, was forced to partition on the grounds of religion with inter-religious massacres on both sides.
There is a vast majority who want nothing more than to live their lives without having to look over their shoulder in case they cross or are restricted by some obscure religious creed.
We need to fight against anyone whose religion seeks to restrict the ethical actions of the individual.
It should be a qualification of anyone seeking public office that they leave their beliefs outside the public arena. Unfortunately, politicians can't help but pander to those who yell the loudest, and nobody yells louder than the bigot who declares that 'I believe (no matter which one or how many) in god and I'm going to make sure that you believe in the same god as me and it's my duty to make you, or else!'

While they might be Christian, it is hardly the requirement and certainly not the requirement that it seems to be in the U.S. (can you imagine them ever electing a Jew, Atheist, etc.??). In fact, I would bet that only a small minority of Canadian voters even think about the candidate being Christian and that there will be a larger percentage from other religions who support candidates because they share the same religion.
And how many non-Christian PMs has Britain had?

Religion aside, do any of you see Canada elect its first non-white PM, in fact will the parties ever let a non-white elevate to a position in the party to get to the election point when voters have to select from the dumbest white guy or female [from the old boys club] or the smartest non-white party leader?
I don't believe its forthcoming in the next century in Canada, or until a time when the white non-christian population is a minority.

Re: Why a Christian Prime Minister?
As we know, it's - 'in God we trust' as long as its my God, the rest of you are infidels.
JFK being the one and only Catholic US president, with Obama as the only Black one. The US have yet to elect a female President, which brings me back to the Christian Prime Ministers of Canada.

Re: Why a Christian Prime Minister?
Does Benjamin Disraeli count? OK, he converted to Anglicanism in his teens, and was required as an MP to take an oath that was explicitly to a Christian god, but he was born Jewish. He was prime minister in 1868 and then again from 1874-80.
