Computerised records of all 250 million journeys made by individuals in and out of the UK each year will be kept for up to 10 years.

Is it just me that doesn't care about stuff like this?

If any government want to track my movements, make me carry an ID card, have records on me or even listen to my phonecalls I couldn't care less! They are more than welcome to.......and they'd get bored very quickly!!

The only thing that I object to about the ID cards is that we might have to pay for them (if it's compulsory then why should I have to pay for it?), but other than that I have no objection at all. And if they want to track my movements in and out of the country then it doesn't worry me in the slightest.

Does it bother everybody else, is it just me?

I'm with you on this I couldn't care less the only thing that worries me is the amount of money being spent.

What a waste of money and intrusion once again into our lives, spend the money catching the muggers and knife crimes/murders etc, how is that going to help stop that,

We have nothing to hide and i believe they already have tabs on all those they consider a risk so how is this going to change, may be here today it will be there next year .

Here the driving licence is used as an ID card. It must be with you when driving. Because the vast majority of people drive it's a cheap way of applying the benefits of the ID system. At least the human rights people don't bleat about it!

Me either - anything to keep us safer from terrorists and track perverts and criminals when they flee. Saves money on sending busloads of police to other countries who try to place where people are, especially if they go to a country without agreements to extradite.

ID card in the driving license...that's interesting, does it contain all the biometric do-daah and everything else in there?

Likewise, if it keeps us safe fair enough, I just worry about the way the UK is planning to implement it and what not.

It bothers me a lot. Time and time again it has been proved that agencies are unable to keep data secure. Large databases are generally a mess and people's identities can easily be swapped (I was sent the printout of the electronic medical records of somebody with the same name but living at a completely different address and with a very different medical history by my GP before we moved). In addition to this "fool proof" systems tend to put the burden of proof on the innocent. Experts, such as people up to criminal or terror activities, have fewer problems bypassing security measures than ordinary Joe Bloggs on the street has proving his innocence. All very well if it isn't you caught up in it but some other poor sap I suppose!

I don't think it has any embedded info - but who knows? At least on a police check they can see if you have any 'prevoius' - and who knows what else?
It's used for proof of age when buying cigs and alcohol and also when you try to get senior discount! For using credit cards - they ask for it as a photo ID. I was asked for it last week when applying for a personal insurance policy.

What bothers me is that they are going to be keeping creditcard details in the database.

What if they "loose" it or someone who shouldn't gets access and then uses those details?

Personally it wouldn't bother me carrying an ID card, but I would not be happy about someone other than my bank storing my card details!
