Muskovado is a stronger/richer taste imo, I suppose Black treacle compared to golden syrup?

Don't tell Tim Hortons about this
Large double doubles will have four shots of "Scaatch" in them, everyone will be driving (their duallys 4 blocks) to work half-cut

Think back to when the height of sophistication was the choice of a prawn salad over soup as a starter and you might remember dining at a Berni Inn restaurant.
They used to serve Special Coffee - Brandy or Vodka or Whisky in with hot coffee and cream floating on the top. Plus, of course, the obligatory chocolate mint (Elizabeth Shaw?)
Does anyone still do this?

...Roll on a few months, he is back in Russia, it is 1994 so very early days after the end of the communist regime and I go to visit him in his home town in the Ural Mountains. We go out for dinner, remembering the UK coffee menu, OH asks the waiter what options they have for coffee. The response? "You can have it with milk, or without."
On seeing the price of coffee in the Beryozka shops, all became clear.

Yup, the cream won't float on coffee unless there is sugar disolved in it.
We often pour a shot, or two, of Kahlua into our coffee if we have one after dinner, which isn't often. We never make it as a floater in a glass though.

Did you know that the (hopefully) former English term referring to German white wine as "Hock" derived from Queen Vicky's fetish for getting squiggly on Hochenheimer Riesling?

What a great memory. It was my mums speciality lol that and the standard prawn cocktail. Gonna do this again this year thank you (she always called it a Calypso coffee with Tia Maria I think?)
I know this sounds stupid but what cream would you use over here to float, from memory over there it was double cream - and my cooking / baking / anything to do with food skills are so minimal that I wouldn't have the first clue what the comparable one is over here. Surely not that watered down half and half crap?
