What's your luxury?

Surely 'Scruff' gin is the luxury. According to my sources (admittedly mostly Facebook/radio 4) gin has overtaken prosecco as the 'mummy' drink of choice. Having finally recovered my taste for it ( and Obsession perfume) following a particularly bad late 80's hangover (do NOT party with Glaswegians) I am fully onboard with this trend. LCBO has supplied cherry, and rose gin recently.

There was a time that gin was the boat fuel of choice. I tended to go for Beefeater. Found it rather crisp. Sadly, I had to leave my gin romance as late one summer night I fell out of my flip flops as I left the Keg and broke a toe.

Winters in the sun in Central America where I make do with the local "Caballito ' gin at $14.95 US for 1.75 liters.
Back home, I drink Bombay Sapphire whichch is just under $60.00 for the same size.

In fact, I'm not a gin drinker. I think "you sniffed me out like I was Tanqueray" is one of the great lyrics of our age but that's as close as I come to it. Recently though, an alcoholic I know told me about falling off the wagon. "I drank six bottles of Gordon's". "Why Gordon's?" I asked, "why not Sapphire?". Apparently Gordon's comes in plastic bottles and so is easier to conceal, I don't think premium spirits ever come in plastic bottles.

But one person's luxury is the next person's staple?
If I said that (according to OH) I spend too much on my car and my hi-fi - not spending constantly, just when they need upgrading - is that luxury? Not to me...

New socks and boxer shorts. I buy a new bunch about once a year, and just putting on new or newish undies makes me much happier, more often, than the dollar value warrants.
So new pants, plus nice booze. I am a simple man.

Gin - you know - its the only booze that isnt made locally ish to me. The southern caribbean is awash with very cheap good spirits, i dont smoke but very cheap tobacco too, heck, even cuban cigars via regular travellers are cheap. A litre of excellent local vodka is 5 pounds, absolut is 12 pounds, rum less but 7 pounds isnt paint stripper, 25 year old really good rum is about 40 pounds a bottle [x4 in the uk or us]
But gin - not less than 15 a litre - though everythings available.
When you have a party, people tend to bring more spirits than wine, it costs about the same.
So my luxury - fresh juice all of the time - passionfruit, a citrus blend, mango nectar, star fruit, sorrel, guava, home made coca cola [thats orange lemon and bergamot] honeydew melon, watermelon, there are others..l

uk_greneda, I have an old friend who lives on Carriacou, he reckons it's like paradise. He brought me back some local rum called "jackiron". Very potent stuff I seem to vaguely recall.

It is very nicein a lit of ways, but carriacous a dry place though, no rainforest interior like Gda. They cant grow much in carriacou, jack iron is just very rough rum made in trinidad from molasses that comes from guyana, not cane juice, and imported to gda then carriacou, thats why i cant understand how they think its some sort of local drink. It used to be made in Gda decades ago but it wasnt profitable, wino stuff really. You can get the same strength but real rum in Gda, its called rivers or river antoine, 155-165 proof.

That reminds me that I've often said I would like new, good quality cotton sheets on the bed everyday and that someone else would be making the bed.
