What's your luxury?
The rich guys in Trump's cabinet who can't resist public money
The revelation that the US housing secretary, Ben Carson, and his wife selected a $31,000 dining set for his office at taxpayer expense has caused outrage. So what's your luxury? |

Car, for occasional use during the summer. We could have had two Carsonian dining sets.

Teenagers.
(And enough wine to cope with them.) |
Re: What's your luxury?
Our horses are eating Costco carrots this week instead of the usual Loblaws ones. They likely won't finish the enormous bag and some will have to be given away. The carrots are an indulgence but I saw them at Costco and thought "cor, strike a light guvnor, I aint never seen one so big"; the actual carrots are Costco sized, not just the bag.
I bought them without even looking at the price. |
Re: What's your luxury?
Power tools.
And beer but that maybe isn't a luxury. |
Re: What's your luxury?
Chanel No. 5 - not so popular now but I love it and it's the first counter I head for in airport duty free shops.

Current luxury - Lamb, Beef Tenderloin and Taxis. Oh...and an expensive TV package (barely watched) but the only reliable way of watching UK football. |
Re: What's your luxury?
I would charter a 747 for my wife & I (just the two of us on the plane) to fly to the UK & back
with a weeks stay at the The Lanesborough hotel in London |

I was just thinking about that but agree it's not a luxury. Especially with near-teenagers....
I also won't eat any of that flourescent orange cheese that comes in a shrink wrap or that tasteless French's mustard. I'd rather have a hamburger naked than have that stuff on it. Another somewhat related luxury is the fact that I won't shop at Walmart due to their race to the bottom business practices that kill the small businesses that were established before they came to the edge of the city. Other than that I look for a bargain like everyone else. |

I'm doing the u-brew gig at the moment, $80 gets you 24L of canadian-equivalent; $85 gets you 24L of craft equivalent.
It's rude not to! Also it only lasts about 6-8 weeks so is clearly preservative free.

My luxury is beer related. I only buy at the beer store/LCBO/dep or drink in a pub craft ales and usually just IPA these days. Gone are my days of drinking canadian swill beer. Life is too short to drink crap beer. I was at an 'establishment' recently to celebrate the 2nd time around nuptials of a friend and the 'establishment' just had Labatt's products and I opted for a 7 up.

Re: What's your luxury?
Modifications and upgrades for my car. Few hundred here, few hundred there, occasional grand for a bigger turbo. I hope my Wife doesn't ever read this.

Re: What's your luxury?
Proper coffee. Illy or Lavazza espresso beans, ground in a decent burr grinder, and brewed in a steam pressure machine. Takes a little time and effort, but well worth the result.
Although I suppose it's not really that much of a luxury - it's probably significantly less expensive, and certainly much less time-consuming, than buying a mediocre coffee from any of the various drive-through emporia. |
Re: What's your luxury?
My Toto Neorest toilet. Shame it doesn’t have somewhere to store biscuits.

That doesn't work too well when you construct your dunny in the dark, and find out on first use that it's on an ant hill. |

My indulgence is probably tech stuff.. but my excuse is that I need (some) of it to work. If I could choose anything else to have, it would be a private jet (complete with pilot) to fly to visit my sister in the UK, then back with her and tour all over Canada for a couple of months with out other sister, I'd end the trip with getting a house/cottage by the water with a sand beach for a couple of weeks. Bliss. I do miss travelling, sigh. |
