I cannot believe that people queue up in the drive thru (intentional spelling mistake) for at least 5 minutes and order a cup of coffee? I think it's a North American thing, a *drive thru* coffee & donut shop would never take off in the UK.

Love tim hortons. Extra black coffee and a cinnamon bun or walnut crunch!

Re: What's with Tim Hortons?

I think the only good thing about TH is the sausage and cheese breakfast biscuit - which is really good but could do with being twice the size! :D

However I think the coffee tastes like dishwater, and I can't understand why people rave about it.

Can't comment on the doughnuts, don't like them.

Re: What's with Tim Hortons?

I am not a coffee drinker. I don't get what it is about Tim Horton's. The kids who work there always get your order wrong. Mind you sometimes I get a muffin for my granddaughter and after we drive away, we discover there are actually two muffins in the bag and I only paid for one!

A friend of mine suggested that they put "something" in the coffee. This is owing to the fact that we were discussing the HUGE line ups. It doesn't seem to matter what time of the day or night you pass TH - there is a huge line up. At the store near me it was fine because TH was one side of the roadway thing and there was nothing the other side. Now they have built one of those mini-malls the other side and you can't drive through there because the driveway between TH and the mini mall is totally full of those idiots lining up for their coffee.

Mind you, there is a Robins just across the street and that is never lined up. I think its a yuppy thing. I am positive Robins' coffee is just as good as TH if not better, its just TH is the trendy place to go.

Re: What's with Tim Hortons?

Drinking their coffee is the opposite to eating a Big Mac.

While eating a Big Mac I think it tastes great immediately after eating a Big Mac I think it was revolting. However with TH coffee while drinking it I think is it pretty average and after the taste leaves me wanting more:D Go figure:confused:

I do like their plain old fashioned dough nut :p and the Ham and Cheese Biscuit (more like a scone for non North Americans) can taste really good too!

Yes but the difference is people don't specifically queue up for just a cup of coffee at McD's, they normally get a meal at the same time.

I just don't get it? why would I waste time queing up at a drive thru coffee shop on my way to work to buy a coffee when we have a perfectly good coffee machine at work?

Like I said, it's a N.American versus British culture thing.

Not sure entirely who owns it now. Originally merged with Wendy's, then completely separated from Wendy's and then IPO'd as a separate company. May be still ultimately owned by Nelson Pelz, but no one seems completely as to who the majority shareholder is now. At least not that I've been bothered about enough to look into in enough detail.

Plus remember Tim Horton's is both a chain and a franchise, so many Tim Hortons are actually independently owned or run by smaller corporations. The Tim Horton's occasionally spotted in the UK that appear and often disappear again are all franchises with stuff (at least in the one I have had from) that tastes nothing like the Canadian items.

The Southampton one was spot on in terms of both the coffee and doughnuts

Timmies is a public company that trades as 'THI' on the TSX and NYSE. I hated Timmies until I started trading the stock... keep sucking back the double doubles people.

Their coffee is sort of like Molson Canadian/Labatts Blue....bland and not too challenging.

My opinion is not held by many true blue Canajuns.

Owning a TDL franchise is a license to print money, IIRC. Their franchise fees are amongst the highest in the business.

I'll second that much prefer Timothy's or Starbucks tastes - but the honey cruller is to die for........:p
