we moved from a town near Stevenage, to Newfounland, we lived on the border of stevenage, welwyn GC and luton, glad to see the back of the place to be honest.

They are full of chavs, drugs a massive problem, the shopping areas are not nice places either and are usually full of said chavs with nothing better to do that, chavish stuff.

Yes....bring on the abuse, and I am sure my post's not constructive, but I hated the place.

I agree, Hitchin is 1,000,000 times better than Stevenage. Also lived (and worked) there for 5 years.

I have visitied Luton on many other occasions - friends of mine lived there.

I suppose Hatfield and Welwyn are also worth considering as is Letchworth Garden City. Hatfield is a bit of a dump but the town centre is about to be demolished and rebuilt which will make it slightly more desirable in a few years time.

I'm not saying Luton doesn't have bad area's - it has, especially around Bury park! LOL< I guess we'll have to disagree there, I lived there 8 months with my brother who still lives there.

Biggleswade is another one to consider, though thats less well connected unless you have a car. Hatfield would also get my no-vote unless you're a student - very expensive imho.

If $$$ is not an issue, the St Albans is 'the' place, similarly, if you have a car and don't mind driving 10/15 minutes to get to the station, there are many little beautiful villages in the Hertfordshire countryside.

Pull up google maps and look at Stevenage and the surrounding areas, that will also give you a good idea of areas.

Biggleswade has a train station with a direct line into Kings Cross - how much more connected do you need???????? It's also on the A1, Stevenage only a 20-30 min drive in one direction, Bedford the same in another and Cambridge, just a bit longer 30 - 40 mins in another.

Why wouldn't you use a windshield washer when it's below freezing? I find it saves having to scrape the ice.

It's not much fun when your driving a long and squirt your windshield and the wipers sweep a frozen mess across your windshield - difficult to scrape and drive at the same time

Try looking at some of the surrounding villages, or even Baldock.
Oh sorry I had to laugh at that comment!!!! My parents moved to Stevenage in 2005 from Crawley (or Stevenage South!) Stevenage is SOOOOOOOOOO behind the times it is not even funny! Shopping there (high street wise anyway) is a nightmare! Sunday shopping is basically unheard of (not such a bad thing in some people's view) the town center reminds me of Crawley before it got revamped and my parents basically don't spend any time there. If they go shopping they head out to Hatfield (again slim pickings for high street stores) or out to Bluewater, Lakeside, Cambridge or visit family in Crawley and shop there!!!!!!!!!!
My parents live on a new development and houses are changing hands constantly either being sold, or different rental tennants! Not sure what that says about the area!?!
BTW they moved as my Dad accepted a job in Ware and Stevenage was about the only place they could afford at the time, it wasn't really their "choice" to go there.
My sister was forced to move back to Crawley due to lack of suitable employment, my mum is facing losing her job and had trouble finding it in the first place anyway!!!!!
This is just my opinion of the place and having come from Crawley, which was developed at the same time, I have to say Stevenage is definitely NEGLECTED in comparison.

Have to agree with you there. I lived there for two years while working on one of the industrial estates. On the whole it wasn't a bad place to live but after moving to Canada you really see the difference. I always like Hitchin though, a much nicer small town.

You're supposed to clear the windscreen of ice first!
