I can't find quorn anywhere! Been on their website and its not imported into Canada. You can get 'Yves' but its nowhere near as good. does anyone know if you can get it in the States?

I miss the Discovery Fajita mix, bit of a weird thing to miss but I've not found Fajita spice I like as much, not even in Texas, so I have my Mum post packets to me.

My mum is over here at the moment, she brought us our most sort after Christmas item, Cadbury's Roses.

In fact she brought two 2.75kg tins, two jars of Quality Street, and 22 Thornton's fondant and chocolate mice. I love my mum!

We were really pleased to find a great Fish and Chip shop in Edmonton, Brits, their family deal is amazing but I really do miss a chicken kebab from the Charcoal Grill in Bristol and I don't think that would do well in the post

Ok - probably really daft question. I've found said peameal in t'supermarket, shinkwrapped and sometimes saying it is smoked. Is it raw? like other bacon? It looks too pink and I don't know how you are supposed to slice that little slab without taking a couple of fingers off ...

Hmm, I've seen it pre-sliced. It's not smoked AFAIK & needs frying/grilling as per normal. Costco also (leastways here) do a vac pack of back bacon already sliced that is the closest I've found to the British bacon experience.

All bacon is cured. Peameal / Canadian is cured by some sort of pickling process I think. Cook as normal.

If I get it I usually buy it presliced, but a good sharp (non serated) knife and a steady hand should do the job?

Ok, i feel a bit silly, but, i cannot find a chicken!

I just want a normal chicken. You know, the thing that costs about GBP 3 in tesco, or maybe on special for 2 for a fiver. I cant find one.

Admittiadly, i live in Pemberton, but we have 2 supermarkets here, and 3 in Whistler and i have tried them all. And some of those supermarkets have butcher counters, etc. But no whole regular chickens. (I have seen one big thing they wanted over $20 for)

Have you tried asking your butcher's counter if they can get you a smaller chicken - I have found my local supermarket to be extremely helpful in this respect. Chicken is more expensive here than the UK but think that the reason for this is that the type of chicken you refer to in Tesco is the mass produced stuff kept in dreadful conditions and pumped with steriods usually resulting in a tasteless and very fatty bird - did you note the price of free range or corn fed in Tesco!!! however, the difference in taste is worth every penny. In Canada the use of hormones and steriods are illegal - http://www.chicken.ca does say there is a chicken farmer in every province so you should be able to get them somewhere.

I have a foot in both camps (homes in Calgary and London UK) so I cart food both ways - Yorkshire tea, marmite, chocolate, Primark T-shirts etc. going west, and maple syrup, peanut butter, Canadian honey, Gap jeans etc. going east. (jeans only because they're $49 in Calgary and £49 in UK)

V.happy to pay more for better farmed/reared, thats not a problem, just physically had not seen any. But, good idea to actually ask the butcher behind the counter, thanks. Will let you know how i get on.
