What type of Halloween person are you?

I'd be worried about the level of "protection" offered by a vest that can't stand up to a pin prick

Well, being European, i have always thought Halloween was more of a North American/ maybe a little bit UK thing, not really for us Mediterranean Europeans... I never liked it as a kid, and not now... I must be a party pooper because I hate kids ringing on my doorbell for candy! In Malta halloween is more a young adult/teen thing (i think!) with parties and such and seems alot more fun for a kid my age than here, but what can ya do... For me I'll just stick to ignoring the holiday for now....

My first Halloween in Canada was a revelation, a delight even. I was driving home at dusk and the streets were full of families in fancy dress. Houses decorated outlandishly. I really like it. It's a shame we don't get many callers here.

I normally go drinking and go home around 9 on Halloween but this year I have to hand out candy, so I grabbed a few props left from dances that I've been squirreling away in the basement at work. On the front step is a 2' styro skull with red eyes and a goth black and red wig on top, and on the other side is a bdsm 'gimp' mask with the obscenities tastefully blocked out with marker and it's hung over some eavestrough downspout. It has a blonde wig. Both have sump pump hose connected so I can blow fog through their mouths (and eyes, in the case of the mask) from the 2 fog machines in the porch. The porch is lit with a yellow strobe. It seems to work, and was easier to set up than I thought (more duct tape!) And didn't cost a cent. The little chocolate bars cost a bit but it's my own fault I had to buy more.. 4:41 and no kids yet.

6:32 and had 11 kids. Cut all the duct tape and hauled all that crap inside and had supper at 6. Phoned sister in Oliver and she says they'll come in dribs and drabs until about 8:30. The cat doesn't seem to appreciate any of this, I suspect because none of the attention is focused on him.

We decorate the outside of the house, stock up on loads of chocolate bars and generally enjoy the evening. However, what I object to is the following.
Employees being guilted into dressing up at work
Parents dressing up & halloweening with their kids
Anyone who knocks on my door after 9pm
Anyone older than 16 who knocks on my door
Other than that I find the whole experience very entertaining.

Ah yes, in olden times when i was a girl Halloween wss about silly parties with games such as apple bobbing. Adults and teenagers dressed up was witches snd wizards. Trick or treating didn't happen til recently and then there wass aslwaysd the threat of mean tricks.

it was about having fun together and socialising, nowadays its about who has a better costume, and who has more candy, etc etc. i agree also with other posters about the pressure in society about dressing up. For example, i was driving through timmies tonight, and all the workers were in costumes, and wanna know what they said? "Our manager told us to wear costumes" And at school we were allowed to dress out of uniform for Halloween, and of course some wore costumes, whilst others wore plainclothes. But the ppl who wore plainclothes, were bugged and bugged all day by teachers and other students alike, as to why they weren't in costume. I personally dont like wearing costumes, but if you do, be my guest, i dont care as long as you dont bug me as to why im not wearing one!
I think the problem is that especially here there is a very fast-paced, work oriented attitude, in that life does not stop for a little fun on halloween. Like today i felt like my teachers stockpiled homework okn me on purpose because they knew its a "holiday" and it would be busy, as other nights i have little homework, whereas tonight i had a good 3 h work,on halloween! I couldntve trick or treated or went out even if i wanted to! And some kids activities eg hockey dont stop for halloween either! I think if we want people to be eager to participate in halloween, it should be considered somewhat more of a "holiday" esp. in the school system. Its not fair for kids to have homework/school forced obligations on halloween if they wish to enjoy it. And the workplaces, i guess are already more than accepting, based on what i've heard and saw, LOL. But point blank, it needs to be more of an actual "holiday" if people are to really take a moment to forget their stresses and enjoy it.
Rant over

I think we had one family come down our street last night.
I went into our local convenience store yesterday. The bloke behind the counter was dressed as a Hula girl. I was surprised. I thought he only did that in his spare time.

I guess this thread indicates which of the posters on BE are grumpy and killjoys, and which are not.

So you're saying that by answering the question, which was asked in the thread, and giving an honest, explained answer as to why i dislike the holiday, makes me grumpy or a killjoy? People have their own opinions and that happens to be mine, so maybe you'd like to share your view aswell?

We took our kids out. They dressed up, as we did.
We handed out stuff to those that called at our door.
