Some members on here (female as well apparently [hi linda]) would welcome ANY opportunity to get their hands on you :p

The OP is gutted about his application, and I am sure is kicking him self from here to kingdom come, because he didnt fill his forms out to the best of his ability. What he doesnt need is some one pointing that out to him at this time, in a non constructive way.

I think that you have been in Canada too long. The British love a loser so they would defo make a hero of the hurdler - we would probably make a movie about it!

Is that banter, or badinage?

My problem with the forum is:

I'm not very good at banter - at least the written sort. Oral banter? I can go all day!

Therefore, I kinda miss out on the "hello me old china," "me old mucker" type of elbow rubbing.

I'm not very good at flirting either - and in admitting this I'm kinda worried that someone might try and teach me. But I suck at it so don't even bother!:o

It's entertaining though - and I wish it had been available when I came over in 81!

Awwww T, I think banter on here is easier then in the flesh because you can just say what you think.

What the hell is a badinage? Is that something Souv would use when he's clamped his nipples with a staple gun

I can't quite remember how he did it, or indeed what tools he used. All I remember is that there was most definately a nipple / tool interface.

NO I meant 'clamp with a staple gun', surely you clamp with a clamp and staple with a staple gun :p

Not sure how many of you watch two and a half men, but there is often reference to Rose having super glued Charlies penis to his thigh.
Just so you know it is possible to do this to oneself:o

To me at times the forum does seem a bit cliquey. But you have to remember that the main posters have been doing so for some time and I'm sure alot 'know' each other from pm-ing.
When you post alot of useful stuff, I guess you are allowed a little bit of lee-way if you want to go off track now and again.
For me, it's jealousy. I want to be that poster, in Canada giving advice about living there and telling everyone useful tips based on experience.
And as mad as this forum and posters can be at time, I know that when things finally get going for us you will all come up trumps with all the questions I will have. So in a way, thanks.:D

I think you hit the nail on the head there, as I said earlier you'll find the ones giving advice about immigration are the ones going through it - so no established member s qualify there.

The questions asked about life in general tend to get answered by the new arrivals to Canada, established forum members have answered these questions time and time again and it does get a bit tedious - but every once in a while they will.

So really all thats left for us to do is discuss everyday life and have a laugh.

We've all been, from the deciding to move, the move, the arrival, the pitfalls and finally the life here, lots of us have been members for years so its only natural that some will seem more friendly than others.

Posts slating people for being buddy buddy will win about as many friends as starting a new job and saying to the existing workers "you suck because you talk about things I know nothing about - now be my friend or else"

If its of any consolation the relationship with one of my best mates on here and IRL started off as a vicsious slanging match and complete dislike from the off!

Some of the posts placed by the experienced posters do at times seem out of order. But they do help bring people back down to earth.
Emigrating is a BIG decision and I think many prospective emigrees, myself included, do get over excited and carried away with it all. It is a difficult and complicated thing to do and life changing. Canada isn't necessarily the land of milk and honey people believe it to be. So, it does us some good to be faced with the reality of at all and be given a sobering slap in the face from time to time.

Oh beleive me you don't have to be a 'newbie' for that to happen. We ALL need as wee bit of sobering at times.

As I've stated before the majority of 'experienced' and 'frequent flyer' posters will tend to give you a 'balanced' view and the better you know their individual styles the more balanced it will seem.

Pincher Dec 22nd 2009 12:47 pm

Re: What sucks about this forum?

Yeah, for 'Newbies' it takes a while to work out peoples personalities and styles so offence can be taken unnecessarily. Posting is like texting, nuances can be lost, so care does need to be taken with what you write and how, especially when emotions are high.
But all of us shouldn't lose track of the fact that the raison d'etre of this forum is to help others and impart useful, constructive advice on emigrating.
