We'll be moving from the UK to Calgary as Permanent residents in August. We will need some furniture , bedding , crockery etc for our new home and wondered if we should buy in the uk or Canada. We have room in our container so it won't cost us extra removal charges.
Thanks

Think about the stuff you use on a daily basis - that should do it

Have just read the bit about you having to buy it new anyway so...
If you are bringing beds then buy bedding, if you arent then buy over here. Different sizes etc.
Couches etc, I've found the good stuff is way more expensive here, and the cheap stuff falls apart. Trouble is if you buy new in the UK then it wont fit into your new house. So maybe hold back on that.
You wont need wardrobes
Crockery, cutlery, probably cheaper and better in the UK. But then I bought some perfectly acceptable stuff for a $ a plate in Zellers.
What do you need specifically? Maybe then we can compare prices/quality

We've been over to Calgary a couple of times and haven't noticed too much of a difference in High Street prices but Your giving the impression that there's a big difference. We need bedroom furniture, Bedding, Towels, a BBQ, Crockery, Cutlery, a Laptop and some mobile phones, are they all cheeper in the UK?

I'd be careful bringing a BBQ, customs can be very funny about things like that and I know there was a thread not so long back where someone had to literally scrub their BBQ til it shone before they would allow it in. And they had to throw the brushes away afterwards
