What do you like about Canada that's different from where you came from?
So as a partner to my thread: "what do you miss from where you came from?"
and because it's Christmas/I'm bored, I am wondering what you like about Canada that's a bit different from where you used to live. Here's a few of mine (perspective: London UK to Vancouver BC):
- Tim Hortons steeped tea
- better options for take out food EXCEPT for prepared sandwiches (no "meal deal" equivalents unless I missed them!)
- better scenery / better walks
- not having to use the tube
- walking up North Van hills (but NOT driving up them as we have a gear car!)

Friendliness.
I know some say it's superficial but I'd rather have strangers saying hello and offering assistance than strangers ignoring me...or worse

Horses and sailing are affordable pastimes here and there's less stigma about pursuing them while belong to the lower social orders. The snobbery around these pursuits would have discouraged me in the UK.

Not spending a fortune for basic healthcare (although at times I wish access was quicker, easy or available locally.)
Chance of cold winters and/or snow.

That's important JS. I was talking to an American colleague now also living in Canada about this the other week. Coming from the UK, prescriptions are a lot more expensive in Canada (unless you have extended cover at work or similar) and there's the upfront premium thing you have to pay in BC. But to someone who comes from the US ... Canada seems a lot more reasonable for healthcare.

I can only imagine what a colonoscopy would have cost me if I were in the US.

I like Canada Day. It's nice having a day of celebration for the country in which you are living, that is nothing but inclusive, and has no dodgy ideologies attached to it, as yet.

Compared to where I used to live in the UK:
Strangers talk to you.
People help each other out.
There is not a binge drink mentality.
I feel safe.
