Oh my goodness I am in a quandary....
My hubby has been in Edmonton since beginning of June this year. The house sale has almost completed, so finally the girls and I are being released to emigrate. We are desperate to see him!
Anyway,I have just checked flights… The date for completion is 10th Sept, I finish work on the 12th. I thought I'd take a few days off to say good bye etc then come on over with the girls and have a big family reunion on 24th September.
The problem is that Air Transat (direct to Edmonton) only has availability on
17th September and 1st October. The date I was working to - 24th September - has NO AVAILABILITY! :curse:
Air Canada does but it is over £1564 for an economy fare
which is triple the air transat fare.
Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa! I don't know what to do. I really don't think I could wait until 1st October. It might just about finish me off.
I could ask for another week at work and can find things to do, people to see etc. Would also mean another week with the in-laws…
Oh not fair, not fair at all.
Advice and experiences please!

We gave ourselves two weeks from moving out date (16th Nov) until flying out (30th Nov) last year. Thought that would be enough time to sort everything out. Well, the house sale hit a problem on the day of exchange (friday)- the new owners didn't get all the money through in time, so exchange delayed until the monday. didn't eventually happen until the thursday - which cut into our time for goodbyes etc as we had to stay round about where we had been living as opposed to going up to stay with family which had been the plan.
The few days we did have with family was a completely hectic round of trying to fit everyone in for final goodbyes (had the party about 6 weeks earlier) and making phone calls and trying to arrange things (national insurance, change of addresses, etc). All in all (and apologies for the rambling) I would recommend going for the later date if you can, because I felt like I didn't have any time to enjoy spending time with family and friends - i was just always dashing about trying to do things!

Go with the later flight. It's amazing how fast time goes when you don't have to go to work and you get to do fun things with the kids instead.

Definitely later ! Its better to have a bit too much time than not enough ! You will have plenty of time once you are there ! LOL

I just checked the Air Transat site, and they're now showing availability on the 24th.

Thanks for you kind replies....
I am quite a good canoeist
I looked into another routing but the thought of changing somewhere whilst on my own (I'm not so big or strong
) with 2 young children, pushchair, travel cot and 3 suitcases doesn't fill me with joy! Any other mums done that before on their own?
How long is the drive from Calgary to Edmonton. Unfortunatly hubby is in training with no possibilty of parole to collect us girls if we arrive mid-week. Again not sure if I could cope with landing and then drivign for a few hours in an area I don't know and on the other side of the road!
Think it will need to be Air Transat on the 1st October. I do agree with the comments on having some time before going to tie up loose ends, visit friends, banking etc etc.
I will only have to spend 3wks with the in-laws and they aren't so bad really
.
The past 2 months have been hell to be honest
. Working full-time, looking after 2 kids and trying to sell the house. Not my idea of fun but at least the end is near.
Thanks

OH MY GOOODNESS!:curse:
I have just double checked the website and there are sh*t loads of seats available...
Yesterday I could only book 1 adult seat, no children. So I called them and they said there was only 1 seat left. I even asked to upgrade and they couldn't do it.
Well I suppose I best book it right away!

Book it fast before they go again. They are obviously only releasing so many seats at a time and they will probably cost more as it gets closer to the date.

The same flights are available for £250 LESS - WTF is that all about
.
First I got told the flight had sold out.
Then there were a few seats left and now they are shed loads of seats and cheaper than what i paid. Grrrrrrr:curse:
