Washing detergent.
Which one do you use?
Is it me, or do they all smell like toilet block fresheners? The one I used at home was infused with lavender and camomile or some such thing, I loved it. |
Re: Washing detergent.
No name cold water.
Chemically all the detergents are pretty much the same, the rest is just marketing and packaging and different perfumes, and I just want clean clothes and dont care about the rest. The water softener made far more difference to our laundry than any detergent ever did. |
Re: Washing detergent.
Kirkland, packaged to look a lot like Tide.

Re: Washing detergent.
Do you have anything to GAIN by asking this question?

Re: Washing detergent.
Purex (HE) - just bought some SURF (HE) as it was on super cheap offer - $5 for a big thingy. You can get flowery smelling stuff here, I prefer the ones that smell (supposedly) fresh/of the sea and wotnot.

Re: Washing detergent.
I use one called Ecos - supposedly an eco friendly plant based one, but it doesn't smell over perfumed. It is scented with lily and magnolia essential oils, so it is a nice floral scent rather than the overpowering artficial ones that some detergents have.
And it is fairly cheap, comes in huge bottles and if you have a HE machine you only need a teeny tiny bit of it so it lasts for ages. Costco and Canadia Tire sell it. |

Don't think I have seen that one. Which stores sell it?
But simply to echo our venerable moderators point, they're all the same bar the food dye etc. I worked for Proctor & Gamble when I was 18. Believe me. |

Re: Washing detergent.
We use "ERA" which is recomended by Chuck Norris. Smells great plus it kicks the shit out of dirt & stains. ;)

Re: Washing detergent.
We use Ecovert HE. But, our choice of detergents is limited because my OH is allergic to most of them.
I'm not aware of any odour, but since my sinuses have been blocked since my first winter in Canada, I've lost my sense of smell. |

Re: Washing detergent.
I have been disappointed with the choice here. I just use Tide but it is not as good as Aerial or Persil.
But talking about smell, what I really hate the smell of are the Kitchen and bathroom cleaners. And Ceramica, which we use for the ceramic stove top, does the job but smells horrid. and while I'm on a roll I hate the washer and dryer in our rented apartment. The dryer rolls everything into a ball within the first five minutes. |

You can actually buy Persil and Aerial here but only in certain appliance stores (well in Ontario anyway, not sure where you are located)

I think bio-degradable means the soap breaks down within a reasonable time after drained and so doesn't remain in the water forever. Less polluting I suppose.
We used to use Persil non-bio in the UK, but we use Eco-Vert here. |
Re: Washing detergent.
I stand corrected. I remember when the enzyme thing came along; the ads showed these little pacman-like enzymes chomping away on dirt. Actually I remember when becoming biodegradable was a big deal too. I just go to the Sears bargain centre and buy a huge jug of Extra for $5 and use a bit more in the wash.
