That volcano again .....

#1 son and his g/f travelled all on their lonesomes to visit the UK yesterday. I dropped them off at the airport.
A little later hubby calls from work to ask if they got away OK as they were threatening to close Gatwick/Heathrow from Sunday as the ash cloud was approaching the UK again.
It seems their plane planded on time (early Sunday morning) and without incident at the right airport. Now we wait to see if they can get back again!
Exciting, isn't it!

I hope their trip goes smoothly and the volcano doesn't upset their trip for their return flight.
Typically this is the year my Mum is able to visit for the first time...That volcano better behave itself when she wants to fly out or there will be trouble

Hope they aren't with BA too, given the strike threats.

I'm calling that Volcano a few choice names at the moment. I'm supposed to be landing in Edmonton on Tuesday morning by which time the ash cloud is predicted to be covering Gatwick. Still It could be far worse and I could be one of the unfortunate people who are stuck abroad with no way to get home like last time

I returned to the UK last wednesday using Canadian Affair - Toronto to Manchester. One of the pilots was waiting in the lounge during the volcanic flight delays. Basically they have been playing catch up where they can and flying directly north of the Greenland coast. However he stated it was the tailwinds that was adding time to the journey and many planes were refuelling at Gander because of the pyramid route path over the North Atlantic.
For the most part though, Thomas Cook were excellent in directing information to awaiting customers. the Air Transat Flight status page is the one to really observe whichever direction you fly from Canadian Affair.
