I often start work at around 500 am or 600 am and sometimes earlier. I'm also on call - it is not unusual for me to get a call at say 0100 am and be expected to be at the office at the drop of a hat - transit is useless in that regard. Not everyone works regular hours.

ooookaaaay but that's not a Burnaby thing, that's a job thing.
It is possible to cycle to DT from where we live- OH does it regularly. There's a trail with a view of the north shore mountains. Hell, it's possible to cycle from Burnaby Mountain - I know people that do that. I think people get put off by suburbs having their own city names, but in reality, where I live is no further than 41st in east van. *shrugs*

Great area as well. Lots of neat stores etc on hastings and very little, if any, serious crime - I know, I was a beat cop around there for a while.

North west Burnaby is an extension of Vancouver really. You could probably be in Gas Town quicker than I could. We almost bought in Vancouver heights at one time and I timed the drive to the steam clock in gas town at around 13 minutes in moderate traffic. Someone driving from the west side of vancouver would have a longer drive to hit gas town and houses are at least twice, if not more, the price.

It really is a gem, imo, unfortunately the masses seem to be discovering it...lots of multiple offers over asking in north burnaby lately
houses on for $600k going for 700K...but you're right, not as pricey as the west side.

Yeah, it's true. Except for the sign saying "Welcome to Burnaby" you can't really tell you've left Vancouver.

Going to be in Vancouver for a week in September for one of the missus' friend's wedding.
We've got a few spare days so I was wondering -
Is Vancouver's public transit system as bad as everybody makes out if you're just visiting?
Car rentals seem to be full of hidden fees if you're picking up from the airport. Anybody have any idea of how much I should be looking to pay for a week's rental for a compact or mid-size vehicle, all costs included (in other words has anybody done it recently and how much did you pay)?
That is all for now.
Thanks for any help.

Transit if you only want to stay in Metro Vancouver area.
Car if you want to see other areas such as Fraser Valley, Whistler etc.

Oh, I know you can do it! I'm not saying it can't be done - it obviously can. I'm just saying that if I were to move to Burnaby, I'd want a car. However, I also do a lot of travelling to and from Richmond where transit isn't as convenient between the two cities. Richmond-Vancouver and Burnaby-Vancouver transit is great, but Richmond-Burnaby? Not so convenient.
Apparently translink is aware of it...but we really need more transit between the east and the south. *sigh*

or atleast to Mission so we can take West Coast Express.
