...can you still do it when crossing and is it still only $6?

South and west, yes. We'll be souther and wester on the weekend, returning one of those waivers.

.... Airport visa waivers are free, but don't come with the green piece of paper anymore....

I had to get the green piece of paper at my last trip to Pearson. My ESTA was not in the system, so I had a very unhappy immigration blokey. He sent me back out of pre-clearance to get the I94 and thankfully let me through.
He told me the best thing to do was write my ESTA number on the inside corner of my passport.
I'm off to the US again on Sunday, so I hope this renewal worked (even though I have the approval, confirmation number, etc., same as the last time).
Better get my finger out and apply for my Canadian passport, and save some pain.

I did an ESTA about a year ago....god knows where the form/# is now..... my question is ....do you have to do an ESTA EVERY TIME? or is it just a one off thing?
