I have some videos taken on my digital camera. If I save these to CD and send back to Blighty, would MIL be able to view them on her TV through the DVD recorder, or will she need access to a computer?? Or do I need to record them as DVDs?? At the mo I only have CDs to record to so do I need to get of my backside and go to the shops to buy DVDs?
Many thanks and all that

Unfortunately, you will have to put them on a DVD to be played on a TV. Also, if you are using your digital camera on NTSC setting, (Canadian), you will have to convert the files to PAL on the DVD for it to be played on a British TV set. If your camera is already set to PAL you won't have to bother with this.
Most DVD burning software will have a bit in the settings or options that will let you choose which mode you want the DVD to be in, usually you have to change the mode BEFORE you do anything else. Depending on the length of the film, it can take quite a long time to convert the files....I'm talking hours, not minutes.
Hope this helpsSally

PS, you can save them to a CD, but only if they are going to be played on a computer, and this is usually far easier and quicker, but again, if it is a lot of film, the CD may not be big enough to store the files. If you are on a PC, windows Movie maker will let you cut and edit, and save the film to a WMV file. Just look in the help section of the movie maker to learn how to do it.

If she has access to a PC and the internet, the easiest thing you can do is edit your footage with Windows Movie Maker (look under the program files). With WMM you can do simple edits and when you save the movie, it'll compress the file down to a minimum (will still be a big file though) so you can either email it or (for bigger files), just drop it into an MSN Messenger chat to transfer it.
For making movie CDs and DVDs you'll need software and patience. However, if you have Windows Vista there's a program called "Windows DVD maker", which will do the job but the whole process could consume a lot of time.

Thats all useful info Sally and Greenhill.
She doesn't have access to a computer which is why I thought of the DVDs and her television.
I can set the camera to PAL and take some more footage. I'll look for movie maker too. I was using the Canon software but it's slow, or it could be my laptop which is limping a little just lately.
Thank you.

Video CD will play on many (but not all) DVD players.
Note that Video CD is a specific format -- it's not just video files burned to a data CD.
Your DVD-burning software may have an option for creating Video CDs.

Yeo what he said ^^^
Copy as VCD and it should work if it's a low end DVD player. You can use bog standard CDs too instead of DVDs.
