I believe hot chocolate is allowed, or perhaps Ovaltine.

With a little nip of brandy in it.

Yeah, f*** it, no point in trying to enjoy all the time, work and effort that's being put into it. It'd be neat if they could build everything in just a couple of days, eh?

Why not be proud of the fact Vancouver's been chosen? Sure, it's a PITA for a short time from a logistical perspective, but are you saying the legacy, promotion of the city and the prestige just isn't worth it?

Is wasn't worth it for Montreal. It took 30 years to pay off the debts.

Aside from the financial aspect, hasn't Montreal benefited from the event at all? Perhaps lessons learned from previous games will ensure greater success for Vancouver

They got a stadium that was problematic from day one. The roof never worked and it began to fall apart in no time.

Remember the famous quote of the then Mayor of Montreal Jean Drapeau ?
In response to protests that it was going to cost tax payers a bundle he said "It can no more cost money than a man can have a baby".

They are meant to be "dry" family areas - so you wont be able to purchase alcohol - but a hip flask?? nice idea . .. .

I'm not talking about getting completely twatted but a little nip here and there to keep out the cold would definitely add to the celebratory atmosphere.

We have enough of that loutish behaviour when we have the fireworks display in the summer. Drunks fighting and generally running amok. It wasn't too bad this year but it has been in past shows. There's even been a few stabbings, I never saw that at our school bonfire night.

I was watching CBC TV earlier and they reported on an EKOS poll about whether there has been too much, just enough or not enough tax dollars spent on the Olympics.

Nationwide it was 48%, 45%, 7% but among BC respondents it was 68%, 25%, 7%.

Go figure.
