Assuming one would be working downtown, which neighbourhoods are in close proximity and still retain some kind of bohemian charm? Or is it all condo towers?
For those of you familiar with Toronto I am looking for something similar to Kensington Market / South Annex type neighbourhood. Looking on Google maps doesn't really give me any idea of a particular neighbourhoods character (funnily enough)
Thanks in advance.

My daughter is in Kits, apparently it's "like the Beach in Toronto but with an actual beach".

However, that child did say that she'd rather live in the "more hip" neighbourhood called Commercial Drive.

South Granville is nice. It has some really nice shops and is close to Granville Island. You can walk over the Granville Street bridge if you are so inclined. Its Bohemianesque but without the methamphetamine.

Kits is very popular and the beach is a great draw but I personally wouldn't say that it has any bohemian charm. I would personally liken it to Clapham.
Commercial is funky as 4Bells said
South Main is also popular
There is also Gas Town - I love the architecture down there, but it depends on how fussy you are about your neighbours! You could never acuse that area of not having a distinct character!
We live in the westend and love it. Just a stones throw from the CBD.
Could look at Yaletown as that has some brick buildings but also plently of glass towers as well.
We've always found previous rental propertites either through Craigs List or by walking the streets looking at ad and "apartment for rent" boards outside apartments.

Surprised nobody has mentioned the west end. It's not too high rise, and has a nice community feel to it.
