Vancouver Fireworks tonight

First up its Canada. Then Saturday S. Africa, the UK on Wed. and China for the last Sat. I think the UK entry will merely consist of a few people waving sparklers.

I am going to take a few friends out on a boat. A few munchies and some grown-up pop and it should be a good evening. Anyone going?

Calgary has a similar event every year, Aug 21-29 this year, as part of the Global Fest multicultural festival. Until this year, it has been run as a competition, and Britain has won a couple of times lately. That might be why there is no team this year - if you win two in a row, you have to sit a year out to let someone else win! However, this year it is no longer a competition, so I don't know if the rule still applies.

Just because.

It's a great excuse to sit on a beach for an evening watching the sun go down over the bay and the mountains. The fireworks can be pretty impressive too.

Fireworks are ace, can't wait. Not even going to take my camera this year - just going to enjoy the display.

Guess they got the money they needed. Earlier in the year or maybe last winter they were saying they had to cancel it for a lack of sponsors.

There are supposed to be 200,000 to 300,000 people watching them tonight!

For those who won't be able to, at 10pm Pacific time, you can watch via webcam at www.katkam.ca and refresh your page every 30 seconds. :p

They say that all the time. Supposedly this year was different and they really were going to cancel them ... yeah right..

Alan, there wasn't a sarcastic tone in that last statement, nor the slightest bit of underlying gravelly dryness..I think you need beer and fast!!
