Valentine's Day

Anyone doing anything?

I'm really trying to conjure up a rationale where I can spin the notion that a fishing trip over the weekend would somehow not be deemed as neglectful. I suppose a card and bunch of flowers might soften the idea. I could stretch for a posh dinner on Sunday night as its actually Valentine's Day, but I doubt I'd be a fit state to go anywhere on Saturday night after 12 hours on the lash, I mean fishing.

I got a card. Such that it is.

What's with cards for things here? Trying to find a normal card without some cringe inducing message in is next to impossible.

The choice comes down to either picking a shit one ironically (which isn't very romantic) or spend $$$ on one of those fancy artsy ones. Though I suppose the fact that the fancy artsy cards are even available is something I should be grateful for as they weren't around a few years ago.

Pah! it's a pile of tosh- don't give in to commercialism. just leave a note on the fridge, "glad you're still here" xx

Tonight I get to accompany my husband as he drives to Lethbridge, with a Pinto wagon on a trailer to be delivered Sat Pm -after we have mooched round a swap meet looking at random and sometimes rusty pieces of vehicles, in the hope we'll snag something cool that I won't even know what it is.

I expect I'll be treated to a decent supper. On Sunday, we collect a Ranchero from somewhere near Lethbridge and make the journey home.

Oink you could tell your missus about other mens wives Valentine romancing, bung her a spa voucher and enjoy the fishing ;)

Brilliant, you're a genius. There's a couple near us that she has expressed interest in. I'll pop out this afternoon and get a gift certificate, then go down to the dock and get the boat ready. thank you.

Shame on you Piff Poff, as if he needs help to be lead astray. You are a traitor to womankind :sneaky:

I did like seeing the word missus again though- could only be from a Brit

Nothing. Not worth spending money on things to make companies wealthier, it's just an over commercialized holiday to suck money from people.

My wife doesn't partake in it either, so we have a good match. We will do something for one another, but we won't buy cards, or candy, or flowers or any such stuff the marketers trying to convince us we need.

Well, not all of it. Just some.

Same applies for Easter, xmas and Halloween.

We might Skype. Or then again we might not. We're not manufactured-greeting-card-company "romance" fans ;).

Actually, the moral support by text that I'm getting right now as I try to assemble an Ikea product is probably an excellent Valentine present :).

Same with all the birthday and Christmas cards , wife and I battle to find ones that don't induce vomit when opened.

It's an interesting indicator of just how different British and North American mindsets actually are.
