It costs around $3 a month, but allows you access to the UK and US versions of Netflix, iPlayer, Channel 4, ITV player, etc, etc. |

Re: US Netflix DNS
Yes, far more content (more than 5x) on the US Netflix service, and they don’t care where you register, what credit card you use etc, VPN van be "laggy" simply switching DNS is way better. http://www.unotelly.com/unodns/ have a paid service, but i had a free one before, $5 a month seems excessive when all you need is a US DNS. and Yes, you get iPlayer and C4 content working too.

We use a VPN called easy-hide-ip.com
It costs around $3 a month, but allows you access to the UK and US versions of Netflix, iPlayer, Channel 4, ITV player, etc, etc. We use Unblock-us.com for $5 US a month and it's configured on our router so anything that's on our WiFi can access BBC/US Netflix/Hulu etc. Is pretty cool to be able to roll over in the morning and watch iplayer straight away on the ipad. Also works for BBC's live streams. |

If you do this, how easy is it to switch back and forward between Canadian DNS (& Netflix), US, UK etc? For a non-techy kinda person! We get netflix through a WD Media player hardwired into the router. We also have tablets and laptops.

Re: US Netflix DNS
BTW. i should have said, for anyone that wants a free regional DNS service which is good for anything but Netflix, this is a great resource http://tunlr.net/ really no strings attached.

There are ways to past US netflix from outside if you know how |

why would somebody do that?
My son and his friends run a minecraft server, costs $40 odd a month, they let lots of other kids play there freely.

If you have other laptops then you could not bother changing the router info - and just change the settings on one of your laptops. Then you could use one for US and one for Canadian Netflix. Personally we've never needed to, or felt like we should, revert back to Canadian Netflix. So I'm clear though: you don't need to change anything to go from US DNS to a CAN/UK when you need it. i.e. I can finish watching netflix.com or hulu.com on my laptop and type in bbc.co.uk/iplayer and get immediate access to the British content. It works it all out for you automatically. We go to CBC.ca to watch Dragons Den then ABC.com to watch Shark Tank straight after each other haha. |

Re: US Netflix DNS
Hi all, I know this thread is old, but I found a great DNS that gives a free month and after that it's only $3.99 per month. It'll allow you to watch TV from anywhere to almost anywhere. Go to Unotelly.

Re: US Netflix DNS
Just change your dns settings! DNS stands for domain name server - this is a computer that converts the name you type into the search bar into numbers a computer can read. So for example, type www.google.com in the search bar - this gets sent to a DNS and converted to four 3 digit numbers - i.e 123.123.54.155 and then sent back to you. Normally the company you get the internet from is also your DNS, but this can be easily changed.
Visit youtube, there is always someone posting a video with up-to-date free dns settings. There is no need to pay for it. There are no hidden charges, no bandwidth fees...nothing. And if you have a ps3 or xbox it is very easy to change the dns settings. |

Isn't that complicated at all to be honest. Their website has full instructions http://support.unblock-us.com/ just type in the name of your router.

PS, to co from Netflix USA to UK do you have to register and pay twice?? If I try to access the UK one I end up back on the USA one. |

I use a VPN and switch to the UK or US IP address and Netflix knows which country the IP is from, works fine, cost, $26 a year. You pay for one netflix account and log in, Netflix determines where you are by the IP address (using a VPN). With a VPN, no need to change the DNS on anything.

Re: US Netflix DNS
i use vpn one click on my iphone and ipad, was $10 a year, and you can pick lots of countries to get an ip address from, so i can easy switch between iplayer etc.. and netflix from any country that has it. they also have pc versions

We use that. We find no need to log into the UK Netflix so use the US one. It does seem to allow use of BBC iPlayer and 4 On Demand too which is odd, but welcome.

OK, I know this is probably a silly question but once you've changed unblockUS from the US to the UK you are pressing the 'update' beside the country aren't you? ;) works every time for me :)
Ok, I don't have an Unblockus icon. Need to look into this. |

Re: US Netflix DNS
We changed to US Netflix through our Apple tv (check out YouTube video on how to, and no extra charges) - sooo much more stuff on there. Currently enjoying The West Wing again - every series on there....

For us oldies, could you post a link to the youtube video. I've just set up my Apple TV (and everything else) on a French Livebox/TV d'Orange/Samsung SmartTV and all works fine except Netflix. (Not surprising because Netflix.fr doesn't exist).
|
Re: US Netflix DNS
If you use a smart DNS service (I use Overplay) at $5 amonth it has your device as being in the US specifically for US Netflix which has the most content but still look like you are in the UK for other sites etc. (Iplayer and the like)

To change 'stores' on the samsung TV press the following keys on the remote: ff 289 rew and enter - You can then change stores to UK or whichever you want. You will only get iplayer etc if it is set up as on the UK store and install netfix also |

Re: US Netflix DNS
If you swap to and fro on Netflix, UK/USA etc, do Netflix realise and if they do. Are they bothered?

Thanks Ann. I'll try that after lunch. :D
Now (being on a roll here) I don't suppose anyone has an appropriate DNS code for the UK handy? BTW, lunch was accompanied by a glass of Cellier des Dauphins Cote du Rhone Villages which retails at the LCBO for about $12. I bought six bottles on offer at E. Leclerc for 11.99 euro, or about $15.60, the lot. Cheers. |
