Judge rejects Toronto's case against Uber - The Globe and Mail

Sounds like the law in Ontario is too dated to deal with apps and running businesses through them.

In California, there are a lot of cab companies and many of the small companies pay their contractors under the table. For Uber, all billing is done through Uber and a year end 1099 is issued for income paid to the contractor including tips so it's pretty hard to evaded taxes.

Maybe I read it differently.

But basically there has to be a direct phone call for it to be a cab company. Because it is ordered via an app it is acceptable.

That was my gist.

The cab firms if they are smart will develop their own app and then abandon the conventional methods of ordering their service. They can then avoid the licensing fees.

I personally think it's a kick up the arse for the cab industry but at the same time a flimsy sharkish operation with no real moral compass.

It has been valued as being worth more than Toyota????
I know loads of black cab drivers and my brother in law drives one as well. They are very worried about Uber. I've still got my badge/licence from Ireland. Awful job.

Are they going to moan when my nan calls up my aunty Val to get her neighbour John to give her a lift to the bingo and she gives him five quid for his trouble?

Reversing along a motorway lane because you missed the exit is standard practice in New Jersey. 18 wheelers, cars...they all do it with alarmingly regularity. Don't even move over to the hard shoulder...
