U2 iTunes?

Ok, so the Irish foursome that I used to consider the "best band ever" have just launched their new album on iTunes, and given it away to everyone! 500 million iTunes accounts.

Apparently it has been showing up on people's phones etc and some are not too pleased. My case is opposite, I can't find it anywhere within my main iTunes. It appears in the iStore and samples can be played but that's it. In the iStore is says the album will appear in your Purchased folder (and indeed in the iStore it is marked "Purchased") but I don't see it?

Any ideas? Has anybody received it within their iTunes?

Just checked and I had to hit download by tapping the little 'cloud with down arrow' icon (it was already flagged as 'purchased'). It's downloading now.

Yes that's what they say, but where is that "cloud icon"?

The text was "Download all U2" (I think). The icon was off to the right of that piece of text, near the right Edge of the screen.

Sorry, tap "Purchased" at the bottom of the screen. Go to U2.

The cloud icon should be on that screen.

Ok, found it on my iPad version of iTunes. Downloading now.
I guess it will synch to my Mac in due course as it didn't seem to be on there anywhere. Thanks for helping. Rock on.

Mine was in my music. Not listened to it yet, hoping it's not a disaster like the euro disco phase

I pretty much stopped listening after Zooropa. Gave this new one a spin this morning and there was one track I quite liked Sleep something ...

Nice freebie though.

In iTunes, go to preferences, click the "store" icon the click "show iTunes in the cloud". That should work.

I listened to a couple of tracks and have decided not to waste the bandwidth... shame, they used to be good!

Why are they giving it away for free? What new marketing strategy is this? Are they hoping you will buy more for friends?

Takes all the fun out of downloading it from "other sources"

U2 probably want exposure to a younger fan base.
Apple want customers to experience their cloud music player.

Re: U2 iTunes?

I'm somewhat miffed at having this forced on me. Yes, I know I don't have to download it, but I believe it will show up in my purchase history regardless. It'd be nice if I could swap it out for something else.

I believe it was some $100 million deal between U2 and Apple to announce the new album. If you're going to publicize a new album, then doing it at a very large media event, especially the one Apple just had, then it's not a bad place to do it. Announcing it at a discounted price would be one thing, but giving it away does get people talking.
