I had it pointed out to me yesterday by a colleague in London that I have started to use hours instead of miles/km when describing distances. I've probably been doing it for a while.

I actually think that using hours makes more sense. You can factor-in speed limits, time of day, construction, weather and bodily functions.

If I'm typing it, I usually refer to it as soccer football. I wish there was a way of verbalising it.

Soccer, football, hockey, whatever. They're all just an annoyance when they preempt my TV shows.

i've always used time to describe distances, I think it's more common in Scotland than anywhere else in the UK to do that

the one i noticed on that BBC article was:

Do the washing up - apparently British for "wash the dishes", again I've always said the latter in this case

Perhaps its the "everywhere outside of Britain" mentality that British means English and Scottish/Irish are completely different!

I don't like saying 'mall' as in 'maul', but if I say it as in 'Pall Mall' everyone looks blank. I am happy with Pants! I am happy with trash.

I have had two good friends who were Fannies, and my son's friend was a Willie!

The funny thing is that 'trousers' sounds a bit silly to me now.

I enjoyed it but it's an opinion and we know they're like arseholes, everyone has one.
