TV recommends
Recently I have enjoyed streams of The Hour, Spooks, The State Within and now, the first series of Homeland.
Any recommendations based on this? |

Re: TV recommends
Thanks for the suggestions.
I should have posted when sober. I'd have made a better job of the title. Themes running through Spooks, The State Within and Homeland are MI5/MI6 and US equivalents, computer wizardry aided surveillance/decoding, Political shenanigans (Party and with a small p), undercover work often of a scary nature, the portrayal of real or close to real events (albeit with a bit of embellishing) conspiracy, cover ups, innocents caught up in things, ruthless baddies, etc etc The Hour also contains many of these aspects just not the technical wizardry unavailable at that time. That's the sort of stuff I'm looking for at the moment. These series all seem to have passed me by while I'm usually aware of other things. The Killing, The Wire, Wallander are on my list so I'm not just interested in "spy" TV, Although Page Eight was brilliant.:) |

I can't watch that without thinking of the SNL skit about it. If you haven't seen it, you really should
Wallander and Silk both great shows. |
Re: TV recommends
Love Game of Thrones. Got fingers crossed for a new series of Boardwalk Empire but I have never seen anything to match The Wire.

Re: TV recommends
I'm not a fan of zombie stuff normally, but The Walking Dead is an amazing show too.

Re: TV recommends
If you can view UK TV programs...I recommend Scott and Bailey. Police duo...the second series has just finished.

One of the actors in The Wire, Idris Elba (Stringer Bell), was the last occupant of the house I'm living in in Toronto. I am in love with him so I feel like I'm the ultimate celeb stalker now!!

I know Idris. I'll be seeing him in August at a wedding funnily enough. If I remember I'll mention this ;)

Re: TV recommends
Oldie, but a goodie, Foyle's War, well written and well acted. I must admit I have a slight bias as I love Michael Kitchen.

Not knocking him at all but he was only in the early seasons. I thought The Wire got better and better as it went on.

Re: TV recommends

Sadly, there is no euphemism and it was just some chocolates.

I liked Scott and Bailey. Also like some of the 3-4 part series they have on iplayer like The Syndicate etc. Can't beat a good British drama.

The Syndicate was brilliant...anything starring Timothy Spall is good IMO. A second series is being made. He was is a series called The Street a few years ago...another good gritty UK TV drama. Just like The Syndicate...every episode revolved around a character or family that lived in The Street. Although I enjoy a lot of US TV series...there is nothing to compare to a UK TV drama.
