TV, Phone & Internet

TV, Phone & Internet
Thanks to the many threads, posts & input of BE members, the day is fast approaching to get rid of the several service providers we have & to lower the bills as well as simplify our gadgets .
We are a retired couple with basic technology needs, use of gadgets or features in our lives.
At present we have Bell Home phone land line (no features), a great deal on Rogers cable, a basic (calls only) cell phone at no cost (from the children to their mother ending December 31) which she uses less than 60 minutes/mth (no texting or data) & a WIND internet stick
Total cost to us runs approx $120/mth (tax in) with the free cell phone included
Based on the reports in the next 45 days from
Got us a Magical Box Android Smart TV box last week, had a week to try it and looks like Rogers TV is guna be history in our house
New and old Movies, footy, live BBC 1-2-3, ITV, Ch4, Sky sport 1-2-3 etc, new and old series it's very good. (Yeh i knows u can get all this on a computer but) so easy all at the touch of a button, or 3.
Price? $110 all set up fully loaded with channels
I can get a lot of the same stuff as my TV gets, CNN news, BBC & ITV news too, and the UK adverts lol strange seeing them now. Plus History and Discovery channels, these are live too, as on Rogers.
I am with Bell, Fibre and we get 365GB for $49:00 month.
I can see us dropping the Bell land line, Rogers cable, WIND stick & going with the following (before tax price)
Two cell phones from Public mobile (now owned by Telus) using one cell as a permanent home phone.
Public Mobile. Price Plans starting at $19.
One $19 & one $25 plan
A Bell internet fibre plan to get us internet + free TV ~$50
Is it worth the total switch, or do a partial switch of services?
Appreciate any input or comments....

Re: TV, Phone & Internet
We recently cut down to the bare minimum TV package. I'd probably cut it out completely but for the others in the house.
We have phone (landline)/internet package from Bell Aliant. The equivalent internet part seems to be $40 of $104.
Maybe some answers will reveal if something can be done about that $64 for the phone.
We have no cellphones.

Re: TV, Phone & Internet
We just have two cell phones and an Internet package which is about $46 for a DSL service.
Our cells are expensive but that's our choice rather than necessity.

A Bell internet fibre plan to get us internet + free TV ~$50
Update:
I spoke to Bell. The TV & Internet bundle is $90pm, though there is an introductory offer for $50pm for the first 3 months (of a 2 year contract). You can get the $200 box for free without really trying. Looks like arial it is!

Re: TV, Phone & Internet
We are paying all with Shaw: (I know they likely are not available in eastern Canada.)
Home Phone no features beyond standard- 15.00 (Currently receiving free as we called to cancel it and they offered 6 months free so keeping it until then and cancel unless they keep it free....lol
Internet 125 GB per month limit- 55.00
Basic TV- 36.00
TV Package - 10.00 (we only watch the channels here + the local stations but they make you pay for all the other ones of course in the basic package.
If I could find a reliable way to watch current TV shows on the networks, I'd dump cable, but Netflix takes too long to get new episodes. Its an okay service for movies and older stuff, but I don't find it a good replacement for TV.
The bulk of the cable price is internet anyhow, no way to lower that. We have a choice between Shaw and oh Shaw. Telus doesn't offer service to our address at the moment, but wouldn't give us service anyhow.
Plus they are sneaky, cancel the cable and internet price goes up 20 something dollars so may as well keep the cable since the internet alone without the discounts given is pretty close to what we pay now for cable and internet combined.
If internet wasn't so crucial to life these days, I'd dump it, but so much has to be done online, its not really viable to do so.

Re: TV, Phone & Internet
Our phone/ internet is with bell and costs $90 a month after the introductory period ended. Thats about $35 for the land line phone and $55 for 40Gb DSL internet at 5Mbs
We ditched cable 5 years ago or so and dont really miss it but we do now pay ~$10 a month for Netflix, mainly cos its convenient and we can track what the kids are watching. Its enough "TV" for us. If live sports matter to you that wont cut it.
We have "Pay as you go" cell phones that cost $100 a year. Obviously we are not heavy cell users... partly because of patchy coverage at home. If we had decent reception I could see us ditching the landline and using some sort of VOIP service for long distance/ international calls.

Re: TV, Phone & Internet
We don't have a landline any more. All our 'phones are VOIP. We have 4 'phones and 2 numbers. I use the same firm I used when living in UK, so they bill me without adding VAT so our average bill, including quite a lot of international stiff is about 20GBP per month all in. It also means we can retain a UK number for friends and family to call us on without them incurring international rates.

Re: TV, Phone & Internet
$64 plus tax/calls seems a bit much just for landline.
Edited to add....I'm going to look at this some more. They advertise basic phone for $26.75. Two separate services appear to be $38 cheaper than the 'bundle'

Cost aside, isn't this a problem when the bank "needs" you to call them from a landline, say, for card activation or something?

What's this one? I'm looking for an internet package (techsavvy at around $45) and if I can get some free TV in for similar and save on putting an old school arial up I will!

So pretty much the reverse of ours.
That's including calls? Any idea of rate charged?

No problem at all. To the outside world, there is no difference between our VOIP phone number and our neighbours' regular landline (except the actual number of course). We have a Canadian number and area code just like everyone else.
