Sony Bravia LCD - excellent. Went to a friends at the weekend and they've just bought a Sharp Aquos which I thought was impressive - especially with the HD channels.

You might want to consider a Samsung. The Sony Store I bought my Bravia from said they're made with Sony TVs and have the same insides - just cheaper to buy. True or not, who knows - but they're nice too.

This one caught my eye recently, it's a little bigger than the size you're after but check out the price, spec and reviews.

Olevia 747i LCD HDTV - 47" 1080p $1,199.99

I would like to get the opinion of members here.I have looked into many tv sites but want to know abt people's opinion in this site.

That looks impressive for the price!

If you mail order something, what do you pay in GST/PST? Is it according to the province you live or the province where they are based?

Look in the States, you'll save a fortune. My Pioneer was 4,400 and 4,200 CAD here (okay, the big chains didn't sell it so those are local indy Windsor shop prices) versus 1,800 USD in Best Buy across the river. I paid sth like 390 CAD in duty and tax to bring it in, I'm still smiling over the difference though

The same amount as a store in the province would additionally charge. The only additional fee you pay is the shipping and handling (plus tax on that).

Examples
For NS:
SUBTOTAL $1,199.99
S&H Truck.................$99.00
TAX $168.88
TOTAL $1,467.86

For Alberta:
SUBTOTAL $1,199.99
S&H Truck.................$99.00
TAX $64.96
TOTAL $1,363.94

That's a fair old difference! OH has been saying we should get a minivan - I guess that's one advantage, as you'd struggle to get a plasma in anything else, especially as you can't lie them flat!

The BB staff were great - box wouldn't fit, so they unpacked it and then used packaging to wedge it upright. I nearly broke my arm trying to steady it from the front seat but all was well.

Like I said, not exactly comparing like with like pricing-wise, but not untypical of savings to be had by shopping across the border.

Re US taxes on mail order - I think they only charge sales tax if they have a significant presence in your state (i.e. Michigan if you have it sent there). Some places charge, others don't. It's only 6% in MI. 300 USD for a 15mth rental of mail box in downtown Detroit UPS, they'll accept any packages as long as they can fit them through the shop door

That must have been an interesting drive home! Still, can't be any more dangerous than timmy's in one hand, phone in the other and steering with knees

Are the prices in store for BB a lot cheaper than the website? I've compared the BB US and BB CA sites and there's not that much difference.... The US one is cheaper, but not ridiculously so....

I don't know, that's about the only thing I've bought from them I get the rest of the stuff sent to the mailbox and just go with whoever is cheapest online. I just had visions of the UPS guy sitting in front of my nice telly with his feet up... so wanted to collect that one myself We could have shaved a bit more off ordering it online from some electrical place in NY whose name escapes me now, they're usually cheapest, I got my camera from them.

Cheapness in this case meant in a good way.

B&H has an excellent reputation amongst the photo crowd.
