Is it simply that Donald Trump has something special or is it that today's politicians are so self centered that they can't see outside the box?
What I'm trying to figure out is whether today's successful entrepreneurs are that much more enterprising than the successful career politician. I suppose the straight answer is that intelligent rich kids make money and less intelligent rich kids become politicians and steal it. What we have here with Trump is a man who, without established political support, has seen the political landscape for what it is and out-politicked the old guard, and apparently without the financial backing of large sponsors.. although I suspect that there's a profit in it somewhere. One of his main themes has been the inept incompetence of the old guard, and given his runaway success to date from a standing start who can dispute this. Of course he has been lucky, like Margaret Thatcher was, with his opponents. Cruz with his inflexible ultra-christian stand, Rubio with his obstructive Tea Party background, Carson with no charisma whatsoever, Kasich with with the soft spoken wouldn't hurt a fly manner and other ne'er-do-well politicians who could only demonstrate how far out of their comfort zone they were. There were hints a while ago that Bloomberg might enter the race, so if the establishment get it's act together, will it take another non-political figure to stand up to the Donald, because thus far he's proven to be more than a match for his conventional political opponents. |

When Americans, especially the more working class type, call for a revolution its is not the same as Europe or Asai where one topples systems. It is one borne from a Lockian tradition of property rights and individual advancement, they don’t want to get rid of bosses, they want to become them. Thus, they see Trump as a figure to be envied and to aspire to rather than to be removed. The Tea party had run its course and became hijacked and controlled by a conservative elite, so where do they go? A Trump like figure is an obvious populous choice.

The argument can be made that more astute politicians would have immediately seen Trump for what he was. Instead, none appear to have taken him seriously, one might charitably say they were in denial, less charitably one might argue that the incompetent charges are well proven. Q. Will democratic politicians prove to be any better than the republicans have been or will they cower behind the 'we can't lose' slogan and lose? |
