Toronto Drinks - 10 Feb

Same bat time, same bat channel.

Took a punt on the date, hopefully it works. Friday 10 Feb.

Who's in?

Side note, putting in a vote for the Spring meetup to be in Oakville in hopes that our favourite Oakvillian might be able to pop by for an hour. Big maybe, but at least there may be a chance. :)

I wish the people in Vancouver would make as much effort as you guys in TO when these drinks nights get organised

I do so hope we can make it. :fingerscrossed: We have family problems in the U.K. so won't know until much nearer the date.

IT was ages back... might be time to maybe try another one, see who might be interested? :) I can post a link in the Timeline thread in Immigration as well, see if it helps. :)

It happens.

We've had MeetUp's of just 3 people and 4 people in Toronto during my 7 year tender of attending them.

They weren't always the glorious marvel you see today.

We have critical mass in the GTA and a cracking location that is easy to find and central-ish.

How many people actually live near Downtown Van in the forum?

Maybe. I'll think about it but I'm busy in the next few months with trips and a 'holiday' back to the UK so it will have to wait until the summer

Me at weekends at my partner's place lol

You are right though not many people do live that close to downtown. It is too expensive and the night life sucks (still think Toronto is hands town better for that)

There was a meet up for tri cities area I saw not too long ago...

I'll come to a Vancouver one if we get one organized Becki. And I'll bring my husband if there's a beer involved he'll probably come.

The problem with British expat-immigrants is, they're all like, "ooh Canada, let's assimilate, ooh when in Rome, ooh its better than my life in an awfully drab and thin semi-detached Wimpy house in the suburbs of Doncaster, ooh when life gives you lemons etc.

I don't like those type of people.

ps sorry we've hijacked this thread a bit. :(

I won't be able to be there, sadly, as I shall be 'up north'. I will raise a glass as a virtual attendee. I will miss our evenings at the Yard, always enjoyable.

I will be there not sure yet about the Mrs. I also invited a Brit from my workplace who started recently. He seemed very interested in coming. He also said he was aware of the forum

How far Oop North is 'up North'?

I shan't attempt the Feb meet-up. I'd be up for a spring one even in Oakville. As I can make it to Toronto, surely I can work out how to get from Tto to Oakville & back if the Oakville crowd can do the reverse? :).

One train an hour (last one at about 11.30) and it takes approx. 45 minutes.

Mr S always comes to the meetups, and Jerseygirl often brings Jerseyboy! And Sharkus brings his ladyfriend too. And Garethr brings his Mrs. So definitely bring other halves!

If we do an Oakville one in the Spring then definitely organize when you'll be back this neck of the woods for it. :)

GO Trains haven't been hourly in awhile. THey're now every 30 minutes. I just checked the schedule, trains from Oakville back to Toronto leave Oakville at :26 and :56 until the 10:26pm train, then the last one at 11:26pm.

 Count me in for spring meet-up in Oakville then, if it turns out to be feasible for the majority :).

My error.

Still sounds a bit like A Monkees song.

Take the last train to Clarkson.....".

I suspect it was meant more metaphorically than that. As in, once you've been to Oakville, there's no hope for your soul... ;)

"Up north"?? You told me where you'll be. I'm 1000 km north of there.

That's what I suspected too.

And thanks (NOT) to Souvy and Bristol for the Monkees' ear worm.

ETA: on a point of "order", I'll remind you lot that the original (sort of) question was about taking a train out of .... oh, never mind!!!!

Well, yes, the suburb at the end of the line. The death of dreams. Ruislip abroad. That sort of thing. I know that one can physically return to Toronto, one's baby takes the morning train, he works from nine to five and then he takes another home again, <repeat to fade>.

Hey! I lived in Ruislip as a small child, and look how glamorous and exciting my life is now!

Hmmm. It's possible that I just reinforced your point.

Doubt it. Not really a party person. Plus it has too much potential to be like when you see photos of the people in The Archers, and they never look how you imagined.

Souvy looks how you would imagine, if you'd heard him called "Stevens". I adopted my avatar after the suggestion of posters here that it is a good likeness.
