Default Toronto Christmas Markets

Hi Everyone,

The ladies in our family want to visit a Christmas Market in Toronto. I think the 2nd of December looks good for us. This way the Junior and I can go to the Liverpool supporters club and watch the Merseyside Derby (Its a Win Win for everyone).
What are the Christmas market options in Toronto at that time? What are the do's and dont's from previous experiences?
I would be interested in your thoughts as anytime I have taken a trip to the city before and asked your advice on B Expats it has always been well worth it!!

Thanks in advance

Kitchener. Dunno the dates but there's a Germanic Christmas market there with gluhwein and mechanical things and all of that.

Distillery District in Toronto is your best bet. If you like that sort of thing.

We went to the Christmas market in Nice and Cannes a couple of years ago..no admission fee but security checks and rather stern looking french military police watching us with guns ready at the market in Nice.. This was just a few months after the terrorist incident on the Promenade D'Anglais on Bastille Day.

Great Corsican sausages, local wines and violet candies to purchase, orange trees in the marketplace adorned with christmas lights and cheesy disney christmas music all in english playing. A rather surreal setting and it was topped off by watching locals trying with little success to skate on the artificially ice rink there which is surrounded by palm trees and temps about 10 - 15 c.

The Distillery District is alright. It'll be good if you've never actually been to the Distillery District before, because they don't add as much new stuff/selection as you may be used to from say the Belfast continental market.

Just get there early. I've been there when queues had people waiting for 40mins or more just to get in

Thanks folks,

Looks like its the Distillery District then. The girls in our family have often done the Belfast Continental market and enjoyed it. Hoping this was actually going to be bigger and better saying as it is in Toronto!!
We will travel into the city by the Go Train and when we were last there they went to the Eaton centre whilst we watched the football. It was great as it was just hop on hop off. From what I can see though the Distillery district is not as well served by the Metro/Go train?
If we were going to travel down in by Go Train as per usual (Driving in Toronto is so not worth it) what are the options for the Girls getting to the Christmas Market easily/

Thanks

Thanks Siouxie. Much appreciated.

I wonder if when you buy the ticket for the Go Train for a family at the weekend will it cover downtown bus routes also?

Regards

It is bigger than the Belfast Continental market, but oddly seemed to have less choice. Still I do imagine they will have a great time, as the distillery district is a nice area

I don't believe you can use the Go Train ticket to cover downtown. I could be wrong but as far as I'm aware, they're separate systems.

Went to the Christmas Market in Distillery district once. Never again. A cup of mulled wine and did eventually find chestnuts. Nothing to do or see though really.

In the pictures it looks very like the Christmas markets I've seen in Germany and Belgium and I enjoyed those.

How does the Toronto one compare to those in Germany?
