Time to renew British Passport from Canada

Hi

The UK.gov website says renewing a passport from Canada takes around 4 weeks. I am wondering if anyone has any experience of this yet and how long it is taking at the moment. Not being with a passport for any length of time is a bit concerning – they require the current passport to be sent to them.

Thanks

Thanks – I didn't see those. Seems surprisingly quick, which is great.

+1 for a two-week turnaround. So long as you submit everything you can (including the photo) online and send in your current passport quickly, the 4-week quoted time seems to be more of a cover-their-ass worst case.

+2. They were super quick! I renewed last year and it was barely 2 weeks.

Does anywhere (like London Drugs/Cost Co etc.) do the digital photo that you can upload online? Or is it better just to get a printed photo and scan it in and upload it that way?

admittedly from the US, but I was staggered, mine took, from docs received to passport shipped, from 6/18 to 6/21 ! Photo was done on iPhone against an 'off-white' wall and uploaded. fastest experience for any of our passports...

I took mine with my iphone. The whole point of the digital photo thing is that, so long as you take it against a neutral background, it is sufficiently well lit without obvious shadows, and is not edited in any way (the passport office's tools check the exif data as well as the image itself) you don't need to trouble a photography studio.

Don't scan a print photo - there's no way of telling that the print isn't of an edited image, and it'll almost certainly be rejected. If you want to send a print (or if you need to, for example if it's your first passport application) then it needs to be the physical print with the photography studio's stamp on the back.
