Tim Horton's mustard... wtf was that?

Normally I make myself a sandwich in the morning to take for lunchtime at work, but today (because the fridge was empty), I was forced to venture into a Tim Horton's.

I ordered, and was duly served, with a "ham & swiss" with mustard.

Mustard? The bread roll was smeared with a disgusting yellow fluid reminiscent of sweetened brake fluid, rendering the putrid concoction utterly inedible.

Now, I have been into a Horton's establishment before because the OH likes an Iced Capp sometimes if we're driving long distances on a hot day.

If Mr. Horton is reading this, goodbye, I'll never see you again.

They also offer a glutinous smear as "cream cheese". Whatever the point of Tim Horton's might be, feeding people well is not it.

Clearly. I can't express how awful this stuff was.

I can only speculate as to the point of Tim Horton's, apart from the obvious one of feeding crap to gullible stupid people.

Those prices? This hideous affront to a sandwich set me back $4.19.

I'll not be risking coffee and donuts in this lifetime, thanks.

Christ, you're not listening. I just wanted a sandwich, unpolluted by disgusting slime masquerading as mustard. I wasn't buying a ticket for the underground.

Where else would canadian pikeys and eager expats go for coffee?

Actually I think I might have posted that before - probably word for word.

I see.

Perhaps the putrescent slime was the product of rendering down "eager expats" (presumably mostly Chinese in this case) in the melting pot?

I've heard that Tim Horton's is anyway now a subsidiary of Wendy's, or some such american corporation.

It was owned by Wendys for several years, but they spun off their interest in the company to focus on their core business, and Tim Hortons corporate office will be coming back to Canada, maybe already has.

Just knowing that is unhealthy and casts a suspicious light on all your doings.

I think you are right. Tho in the list of crappy burger joints, Wendy's is reasonable high up the pecking order - at least I'd rather eat a burger from them than a sandwich from "timmies" as people like to call it.

Yes he was an NHL player I presume he got "iced" at some point (Feb 21, 1974 to be precise).;)

This is endlessly fascinating. But why does he think that brake fluid is mustard?

Second rate tennis players, second rate coffee. There is a kind of symmetry there I suppose.

Considering the manner of his death your brake fluid analogy is macabrely (is that a word) apt.

From the Wiki:

Early on the morning of February 21, 1974, Horton was driving on the Queen Elizabeth Way from Toronto to his home in Buffalo after the Sabres had played in Toronto the night before, in his De Tomaso Pantera sports car, a gift from Sabres' GM George "Punch" Imlach. He was negotiating a curve on the QEW where it crosses over Twelve Mile Creek in St. Catharines when he lost control and hit a concrete culvert. The impact flipped the vehicle and Horton, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected. Horton was reported dead on arrival at the local hospital. A police officer pursuing Horton's vehicle said that he had been travelling at over 160 km/h (100 mph).

From the Wiki:

That's all very well. Certainly he appears to have been short of brake fluid that night. Perhaps that's where the mustard went in error?

There's nothing good about the food at Timmies and fortunately it all has gluten in it so I can't/shouldn't eat it.

I did once try a doughnut and it was terrible. Dry and stodgy with some god awful Canadian flavour. If you want to try a real doughnut then you need to go to St John's Wood in London. The bakery on the right at the bottom of the High Street does the most divine jam doughnuts. Well it did 20 years ago.

I'm rambling again, but its late and I'm at work and this is Novo's thread so I feel OK about that. It's not as if he's a sensitive flower who will faint and wilt if his mustard slime is hijacked. He may even feel good about it, but I doubt it. Still it's good to have our Marvin back isn't it?
