Default Thought from UK- tonic water

Tesco's has a range of tonic waters. Including the low-cal cucumber infused one I'm kicking back with now.

Brand-name CanAmerica has Schweppes/ CanadaDry full fat straight tonic- and that's it. The choice in the UK may be mental- but cucumber is a natural partner of gin and this stuff is gooooooooood.

Superstore/Loblaws sells diet tonic water in Presidents Choice brand.

Strangely, Schweppes and Canada Dry belong to the same company now (Motts), which is a subsidiary of Dr Pepper....

Have you tried the cucumber in the gin rather than in the tonic?

Gin-wise, I'm still working on a bottle of Bombay Sapphire - not everyone's cup-of-tea (lol) but my current favourite.

Next up is The Botanist Islay Dry Gin that I picked up at Heathrow....might be a pleasant change...

Try a Pink Gin. A couple of drops of Angostura Bitters in a glass. Swish it around to coat the inside of the glass. Dump out the excess. Add the gin and the tonic et voila Pink Gin. Try it. You might like it. The bitters gives it a nice kick. I was weened on it !

This stuff http://www.thethirdplacetonic.com/ has been getting rave reviews here. Not tried it as I'm not a big gin drinker.

Diet tonic you can only get in a 2L bottle which isn't most practical; metro does a 1L. Cans, no chance.

Picked up tonic with jasmine flavour today.

What's the point of diet tonic? The gin has five times the calories of non-diet tonic, used in normal ratios. I doubt that anybody thinks of G&T as a slimming aid.

Unless of course you use it as an excuse to forget having dinner.

Bugger me. That's the only reason I drink G & T ! I always thought that maybe it was the Angostura bitters that made me look fat.

Novo's normal ratio is one bottle of gin to one shot of tonic, to be fair.

I like it in a pint glass sat on the deck, whole can of tonic, large slug of gin, ice, cucumbers, etc. And I like more than one. So yeah, slimline is important to me...

I could think of something better for you to do with the cucumber.

Reminds me of one time in Preston, Friday night before a big birthday party. One lad asleep on the couch, two of us still sipping, before retiring to bed my mates wife gave us a selection of snacks- crackers, cheeses etc. And after saying good night put her head back in the door and said "do NOT put those cocktail gherkins up Jame's nose".

Which was very considerate because we hadn't thought of that.

Yeah I pick up the bottles of diet tonic from Metro in the Selection brand. It's 99c for a 1L bottle. Cans would be more convenient, I don't drink enough G&T to empty out a 1L bottle of tonic, but it's not exactly expensive and I'm not having them all the time, so meh.

It would be nice to find it in cans, though.

Add a dash of Rose's lime cordial to the tonic rather than let it go off.

It's a nice refreshing drink.
