Reading penny horribles.
Going down the pub to get the jug filled with ale for your dad.
Gobstoppers
Putting Brilliantine in your hair before school
Woodbines
Blokes with dancing bears
Italians selling hot chestnuts on the street

Is it that it's no longer Italians or no longer on the streets?
I bought some at Covent Garden a decade ago.

Sitting on someone's knee in the front seat of a car for a 5 hour journey at age 5 with no seatbelts.

1d and 2d bars of Cadbury's Chocolate; farthing chews.

Threepenny-bit jukeboxes

Knowing how much a florin is worth and what change you would get if you bought an LP for 12/6.

Milly Molly Mandy or Janet and John books.

Listen with Mother on the radio.

Standing in knickers and a vest with all the other girls - and boys - for the school nurse to weigh you.

Being spanked (in front of everyone) with a slipper for talking in class.

Going to the shop to buy the latest 45rpm record.

I don’t mean to cast aspersions about your childhood but there does seem to be rather a lot of inappropriate behavior going on.

Those were the days eh? We used to get our onions from a Frenchman who used walk up and down the high street with them around his neck.

You must have had a very liberal mum. Mine would shoo me outside to play with the other urchins instead of "wasting my time listening to the wireless."

It'd be much better to be a child today. The old days were naffed up.
