I questioned the school on it and they didn't really have an answer why Belgian chocolate was to be stressed.

Er, cos it's better than Canadian chocolate maybe? I think these kids have it easy. They ought to be fund raising with proper jobs like chimney sweep or cut-purse or some other wholesome dickensian activity; it's the only way they'll learn.

how about politicians that do what's best for the country rather than themselves/party?

Every so-called democracy in the world wishes for this.

Check out this forum :-

I've not really investigated myself as it's not tricky to pickup all the channels from Detroit here as you can imagine, but as we're in a rented house I don't want to invest in an aerial. I can get a reasonable number of channels with an indoor antenna upstairs though....

This post covers your neck of the woods, looks like it's feasible :-

Now look - How am I supposed to make such a life-altering decision as this? Spring or chocolate, British Columbia or Montreal ?

It's just too difficult Lychee

1) Towns and cities which have a proper high street

2) a bit more character in the built environment - better mixes of uses (e.g. so you can pop to the pub at the end of your street), mixtures of old and new buildings together, no vinyl allowed on those boxes they call houses, and better design of public spaces for pedestrians (that's with my town planner head on anyway;) )

3) grass that is green all year round

4) Marks and Spencer in Calgary please

4) Marks and Spencer in Calgary please

When we arrived (over 30 years ago) there were 3 M & S stores in the city, it was gradually whittled down to 1 in Chinook Centre. I can't remember how long ago now since they shut forever, must have been at least 20 years ago.

M&S closed its last Canadian store in 1999.

The main thing I would like is a corner shop within walking distance where you can buy milk/bread etc without having to go to the supermarket.

Move to Quebec, then. There are "depanneurs" all over the place.

Some coinage that wasn't the f'in same as the US would actually be a good idea.

School fund raising is sacrosanct in N. America. You'd be better off attacking God.

Back to the thread. . .

Our kids don't do any fundraising for the school (well less than we did in UK)

We do a bit of fundraising for school picked charities and fun lunches with profits going to our partner school in Kenya

PS none of the above mentioned activities are in any way coordinated by the teachers- by parent volunteers

School fundraising comes form the Albertan way of casino funding. I shuffle chips every 18months and pulkl in around $2500 for a shift.

Why?

Most places accept either coins with no qualms, just don't expect U.S. coins to be worth more.:p

I've always wondered about this statistic. Is it actually true? Are all guns in the US registered so they can be counted? I genuinely don't know.

TBH I don't know either, Michael Moore says so. What is true is that there are more assault weapons; machine guns, morters, fully automatic rifles, legally held in Canada than legally held in the US. This is due to grandfathering in Canada and a long term ban in the US.

Yes they do that in NS too, we were shocked when we first came over here, but got used to it after 4 years. THEN we moved to Edmundston, and crossed the road without looking and nearly got run over! We were so happy lol, it was like being back home :D

We have a Macs in easy walking distance - even run by Indians just like in the UK, except they don't speak English as well as our old London shop did! So this one is possible!:D

My lot like the Superstore English Bangers just as much as UK sausages. Personally I didn't ike them in the UK & I don't care for them here either.
