So why put the tonic in the gin, or the coke in the rum, or the OJ in the tequila. Different stokes for different folks. If Johnnie Walker and sprite is your fave tipple, how much better would a decent whisky make it...

That's the point, though. If you're going to dilute a spirit with something that will disguise the original taste, why bother buying good stuff?
Could be any one of a million reasons:p Nothing you or I can do about it. It used to wind me up too, but life is too short. If someone happens to likes the taste of that particular combination, what more reason do they need. |

I'd highly recommend Millers gin, very crisp and pure taste, at its best when served with plenty of ice, a slice of lime and topped with icelandic tonic (which I can't remember the name of, but it's made with glacial water).
Tanq is a decent gin too, Sapphire just tries too hard, it uses some quite horrid chemically extracted flavours (try a little bit of gin with water, it takes the alcohol taste away and lets the actual flavours of the gin come through, you'll be suprised at some of the "premium" gins). |

I don't find that ice adulterates the flavour to an extent worth breaking a sweat about. But maybe I just like my whisk(e)y cold.
Other spirits need adulterating to be bearable. Rum and Gin for instance. Both barely drinkable on their own. |

Depends on the rum. Good rum is as tasty neat as a fine Cognac or Armagnac. Some of the rums I tasted in Cuba draped their arms around your neck, nuzzled your ear and then stuck their tongues down your throat.

You being in Victoria, have you tried 'Victoria Gin'? If yeah, what do you think of it? I like it as something different to drink neat but I find it too flavourful, too sweet or something for a G&T.

Diluted spirits are nothing more than an alcohol delivery system. Tart fuel. Okay, so I'm a tart. |
