Err arguements already been had about that one, tried it briefly with my MP3 player on random when I had a few people round and it fell on deaf ears, my music tastes not quite in the same range as a lot of the folk coming along so that got dropped!

Oh well, since you ask so nicely....

Rd 3 - Christmas
  • On what day of the year does the 12 days of Christmas end Epiphany, Jan 6th
  • Which Christmas characters heart was "two sizes too small" No idea. Tiny Tim?
  • Name the original 8 Reindeer that are also the names of the Christmas Mountains in Canada (half point for each 2 right). Bonus point which province are the mountains in Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Donner and Blitzen. Dunno about the Christmas Mountains. I'll guess Alberta
  • What's the more common name for St Stephens day Boxing Day
  • True or False - Coca-Cola invented the modern image of Santa false. They popularised a late-Victorian image in the 1930s
  • Who directed a Nightmare before Christmas Aaarrgghh. Can't remember. It wasn't Tim Burton - he produced it.
  • What was the name of Scrooges assistant in A Christmas Carol? Bonus point if you can get dead his business partner too? His business partner is Jacob Marley - it's his ghost that does the apparition thing. Can't remember his assistant though.
  • Where does Kevin's family go when they leave him home alone for the first time? On holiday! Florida? or is that one of the later ones?
  • What body of water is Christmas Island found Indian Ocean (although there's also Kiritimati in the Pacific which is sometimes known as Christmas Island. I'd better get my geography anorak back on, eh?)

it's Aberdeen - just. 57 degrees and change compared to Fort Mac's 56.7 degrees. I looked that one up, is that allowed?

yes. It's a bit more general-knowledgy and pop-cultural - people less nerdy than (Souvenir and) me will probably have more to enjoy!

I haven't done a pub quiz in absolutely ages - I'm enjoying these. Thanks!

Get yourself a general knowledge version of Trivial Pursuit. A good range of questions on mixed subjects. Everyone can participate by choosing the question to ask someone else.

Feeling better after that round didn't get as massacared as my Geography round!!

Rd 4 - Nerd/Geeky (this may be back on the too tough route...and thinking based on earlier feedback that I will need to shorten a couple of these questions)
  • Which very popular writer, with a degree, invented the word 'Nerd' - everyone in this house (incl kids) has read books by this author?
  • Who was created first - Superman, Batman or Spiderman?
  • Which best-selling video game series has "Master Chief" as it's main hero
  • What was "Jerry's Guide to the World Wide Web" renamed as in 1994? Hint it's the 2nd most visited website in the US, and the most visited in the world
  • Which famous comedian featured in a bizarre Microsoft advert earlier this year shopping for shoes with Bill Gates
  • Original Super Mario Bros for the NES had how many worlds - Bonus point Jumpman, as Mario was first known, appeared for the first time in which game
  • The Dark Knight is the top grossing domestic (US & Canada) film based on a comic book with $527mill, what's the second highest grossing comic book movie according to Box Office Mojo?
  • What is the speed of sound at sea level called?
  • What is the name of the fictional company that Wile E Coyote shopped for most of his products from?
  • By what name is the geeky character Jeff Albertson better known as in the Simpsons, Bonus point how old is Bart

We have a couple of his adult books (that sounds wrong... I mean books for grown-ups, not that kind of adult books) of cartoons and a biographical note in one of them mentions his coining of "Nerd" - IIRC it was one of a list of strange creatures that somebody brought back from somewhere else?

Some of that round wasn't really my cup of tea - I'm not a videogamer or comic book reader so there was a lot of guesswork. But I reckon they're probably pitched about right so long as you have somebody in each team who knows Superman from Spiderman or Bart from Lisa.
